So, I get drunk on my birthday lunch and a bunch of us go back to my place for a few more drinks and I decide to show them good old Winamp and how well it performs on the 384 line.

Finally, everyone goes and I crash out, leaving the streaming audio running until 7am the next morning = 300meg of transfer of my 3gig cap :(

DOH ! :D

Time to setup some kinda auto-disconnect thang !

That's nothing....

Arf is looking to test a particular sw package and after trying to find a demo download and failing, decides to fire up the ol' p2p package and starts a 700MB download. Stupidly, Arf does not limit upload bandwidth on kazaa-lite, as he figures that at 128kbps, there shouldn't be much in the way of uploads. Also, his shared folder doesn't have much in it other than some quite unusual mp3s by mostly unknown bands which he had copied from a friend.

Arf leaves the download on for the afternoon as he drinks beer, and swims and enjoys the good weather. 6 hours later, total download is 700MB, total upload 1.2GB! It turns out that the mp3s were VERY rare and that the bands weren't so unknown and that Home DSL384's upload speed is 400kbps. One day 66% of cap used, most of it on uploads!

Stupid is as stupid does indeed.

Just wondering, with the iBurst cap threatening to guillotine bandwidth at any moment, does a daily cap not make a hell of a lot more sense (not for evryone, as an additional package option)?

I mean you can always resume your d/ls the next day. Obviously 3Gig is not sufficient, but say 10..15Gigs?

LOL ic. But good point.
3GB / 30
= 100 MB per day.
= 4 MB per hour.
= 6 K per minute (Checks math and is still not sure if figure is correct.)
Why not just cap it at 6K per minute.

I assume you mean 6kbp/s

You miss the point, however, stoke.
You are free to use that cap at close to the maximum speed of your account, it matters not what the overall average speed would be.

Which poses the question.
Are there any streaming audio stations in SA,other than 5fm,highveld,ecr,. etc

10-15GB cap per day? I have no prob with that ;)
LOL me either, would be great if we were given the uber-speed to go with a 10..15GB cap ;) not to mention a micro-cost to go with it

No seriously I was thinking 10..15GB per month, translated into a daily cap (I was looking for a figure that would allow people to download at least 1 iso image per day - otherwise it would take a few weeks <edit>to get a Linux distro</edit> on a daily cap of 100MB).

www.jacarandafm.com also streams....

Broadband in my opinion means having the ability to leave your machine on to listen to online multimedia offerings without worrying about caps and crap. The fact that we are upset by a 300Mb accidental download is stupid! THE CAP STRUCTURE IS WRONG!

Cheers
