Hey everyone!!! OK so here's my problem:

My STUPID pc restarts when I am playing NFS Undercover an it is really pi**ing me off!!! I don't know what the hell is wrong but the screen just goes black and the in boots up normally. At least I could stop myself from kicking it, well just in time. When it starts up the windows error reporting service tells me that "the system has recovered from a serios error". Here is some more info about my pc and the problem (Don't laugh at my specs, I'm saving up OK!!!) :

OS> Windows XP Pro (service pack 3)
Anti virus> Pc-cillen 2007 Pro and AVG 8.0 Pro

Mobo : P4m900T-M2
Power supply : universal 450 watt
Graphics card: XFX 7600GT
Harddrives: Seagate barracuda 160GB and a Seagate barracuda 80GB
(both7200RPM )
RAM: don't-know-what 2GB Ram 667MHZ

I also have the newest DX (well newest 9 edition) and the newest Nvidia drivers. I have also read ALOT of other threads about simmilar problems but they didn't help at all.

Any idees? Thanks for any help!!!

Could be your graphics card heating up...
Trust me, it's better that it reboots, I fried a graphics playing the same game cos it didn't reboot.

Try blowing a regular fan into your box and see if it still reboots or if it takes longer before it does

Pc cillen, yikes that was one scary anti virus haha.

More than likely the heatwave causing your system to over heat.

like the others said, its probably the heat...

..open your box and ensure the fan on your card is working, as with my previous card i had this problem as the fan died, so when i was playing a gfx intensive game my pc would restart...

...seeing as i could not get such a small fan as replacement, i used an cpu cooler fan, and with a "boer-maak-n-plan" connected the 2, and the rebooting stopped.

I've heard that these problems can occur when there is a frequency change in your modulator. Maybe somebody here can recompile a new one. :)

Try downloading Rivia Tuner and increasing your fan speed.

That helped me when i was playing Devil May Cry 4 with my 7600GT. I used to get a frozen screen with white tears but now it goes on for about 6 hours or more.

@ Charlie 82

Thanx for the reply!!! Uhm, well yeah thats the thing, my box is open on both sides with a massive fan blowing on it. Don't think it's the temp as the card runs at about 40 to 50 degrees C. The fan does have an advantage, it keeps these stupid mosquitos away!!! :D :D Thanx for the suggestion!!!

@killadoob

Yeah I also actually hate Pc cillen ALOT, but it does help blocking spyware infested sites. I don't think it is the card temp, it runs at 40 - 50 degrees C and the CPU at 35 - 45, but I don't know. Maybe the thermostats are broken or something:) Thanx for the reply!!!

@ Wizdumb

HAHA you "boer-maak-'n-plan" sounds good :D but I checked, the fan is working and as I said to Charlie 82, I have a massive fan blowing on my pc so I don't think it is that. Thanx for the reply.

@Seymour 7

Don't know, maybe. Thanx for the reply!!! :)

@Eyenstyn

I'll try Rivatuner, but I already have my card fan running at full speed, but I'll try anyway. Thanx for the suggestion!!! :)

Maybe try another stress test program that is not graphic intense. That way u can see if it's your gfx. Something like orthos perhaps ?

Hey sitnet does your screen go blank as soon as u start up nfs(or any other game)?
It sounds like your playing for a while before it does it right?

Highly unlikely ram can over heat to the point of rebooting, won't say it cannot happen though.

Do you have a normal 3 speed fan you can put in your box and if it still reboots? Is it only the one game it restarts with and does it happen randomly?

Hi Sitnet

Sorry to hear about your problems, but you didn't mention if you experience these lockups on other games?

Do you?

Could be many many things. PSU, GFX, PCI-e slot, RAM, overheating etc.

Best thing to do is take your pc to a buddy and swap components and test.

Yup could be PSU as well.
Does this happen on other games? Could just be your copy of NFS is a bit dodge...?

go to system properties, advanced tab and check startup and recovery settings. uncheck auto restart. you should get an error message on screen when pc locks up during game. write it down and do a google search for it after rebooting or post here. someone might know what the error means.

@ Dan C

Maybe, But I put another card in the problem seems to be gone. But this card (8600gt) is also very faulty and occasionaly causes games to crash, so I don't know, maybe I should just give up! :D

@ CrzWaco

It's after a while of play, so logically it is overheating, but it is not. BTW read what I said to Dan C.

@ Aqua lung

OK but how do I log the RAM temp?

@ killadoob

I have a normal desktop fan (yes the big ones with 3 speed setting) blowing on my pc. It seems to reboot in very demanding games like far cry 2 and NFS undercover, but the most in NFS.

@ wcoetzee

OK I wil try and see what the results say.

@ Anathema

See what I said to killadoob.

@ Brawler

OK, I have a whole athor pc gathering dust so I could switch some components and see but I have already switched RAM and it isn't that, I think it's or the GFX card or Pci-e slot. I have swithed cards but each card gives it's own problems like freezing, creating weird paterns on the screen and then freezing etc.

@ QX6700RULZ

That could also be it, it is rather old.

@ charlie 82

Does happen on NFS most of the time but has happend on other games like far cry 2 and call of duty World at War, but then weird colorfull paterns would appear on the screen and then restart or it wouldn't restart and I would have to restart it myself. The patterns also look like color noise on a photograph (like higly saturated specles).

@ auriga1000

Already did that, I get a blue screen then, I forgot to write down the error code though. I will write it down next time and post it here.

@ disabled

Could've been but I already tested for that by using millions of different drivers for almost everything in my pc and it didn't change anything.

@ ALL

Thanx for everybody's reply's so far :):):)
