Hi all

I am looking for recommendations for a sub R1000 graphics card that can handle games like Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 on low to medium settings.

Any advice.

Thanks

My recommendations:

KFA² GTX550 Ti 1GB GDDR5 @ R1169
Asus Radeon HD6770 1GB GDDR5 @ R1178

You would have to be mad not to get either one, both will easily power your games at high settings with 4x AA at 720p, with high settings, no AA viable at 1080p. Overclocking both nets you around 10-15% more performance in most titles. Cheaper options:

KFA² GT640 1GB GDDR3 @ R982

For the GT640 I'd recommend sticking to 720p, as the lack of bandwidth hammers the card at higher resolutions with lots of detail.

I second that, but would probably rule out the GT640 as an option if you can fork out an extra ~R200.

Spend that extra and get the 6770. Much better than anything else in that price range.

I would choose the GTX550 Ti over the HD6770. Its a really good graphics card. But for ~R200 more why dont you look at the HD7770 (R1,300)

Thanks for the tips guys. R1000 is the budget, so will probably be buying one of the suggested cards under that price point.

If you don't mind you can get a great second hand card for that price, otherwise I would go for a 550ti like mentioned above.

Just buy according to your resolution of your monitor. Warning the GT640 and similar will get some lag in Diablo 3 at crazy areas.

The 550ti can max these games you want at 1080p

Yeah, the monitor is only a 19inch and we're not talking about 1080p here.
It's replacing a GeForce 9500GT so it really doesn't need to be massively powerful.
I just haven't bought hardware in over 2 years (its for someone else) so I wasn't sure what was good at sub R1k range.
Once again the MyBB community comes through with flying colours.
