Subaru Forester or Mazda CX5 or?

Gents, just wanna ask on behalf of my dad.
He is considering a 2017 Subaru Forester 2.0XT or a 2018 Mazda CX5 2.2D.
Which one is better? He got a budget of R500k, what other choices?

I told him to look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6, but he said it will be too thristy.

I looked at the fuel consumption, if you average 10L/100km in the Subaru, and then 12L/100km in the Jeep.
It is 2L difference for every 100km. So it will be 2000 litres for every 100 000 km. It is roughly, 2000L x R15/L = R30000.
R30000 is not a lot, consider the diesel version of all the cars are more than R30000 difference in purchase price.

Do you guys agreed?

Have a look at the Volvo XC40, probably somewhat more than R500K, depending on extras.

Okay, i will ask him to test drive the XC40, looks like that price range is the base model thou.
I also asked him to wait until the new Jeep Compass is out.

The Mazda and Subaru's are both very decent and VERY reliable. I'd personally stay very far away from anything Jeep... Americans are good at numerous things. Making cars is not one of them

The Jap cars (Mazda and Subaru) will also be cheaper to service and maintain and will ultimately outlast the Jeep and possibly the Volvo options. Dont even get me started on the running costs of the Jeep and Volvo's!

So the Subaru will also be cheap to maintain? It does have a long warranty, 5 years/150000km, but maintenance plan is a bit short for 3 years / 75000 km. Mazda have 3 years unlimted warranty and maintenance plan.

The thing is my Dad wants something "manly", haha, he just got that in his mind.
Is there any independent Subaru specialist in Cape Town? Just in case when the warranty and whatever plans runs out.
