Do you do it? I was about to for a site when I read something where the writer recommended NOT submitting directly to Google but rather posting the site in a digg or other aggregator. What rubbish! He claimed that by submitting to these types of sites, your site will be indexed by Google earlier than if you submit directly.

What are your experiences? I'll detail mine a little later.

i call bs with digg. just submit to google and your site should be indexed by the next day if not on the spot.
if you want to test indexing, just search for site:domain.co.za.
may as well submit to bing and yahoo at the same time, they both have webmaster tools and bing seems to copy pretty much everything google does atm.

1. add analytics
2. generate xml sitemap
3. add the sitemap via google.com/webmasters
4. authenticate via analytics (don't need to faff around with meta tags or files in the webroot this way)
5. check crawl status

while digg/etc may be useful from a pagerank pov, it'll probably really only help if people actually get talking about the site. at the end of the day, if you don't have content that people want to talk about, search engines aren't going to hear you.

Basically this. Add Google analytics tracking code to page, then goto Google Webmaster and add site. If your site has a good structure you don't really need a sitemap.

I've found that by just linking to the site a couple of times it usually gets picked up in less than 6 hours... don't ask me how, but it does! You need the links for a proper ranking anyway, so might as well start with it.

What Frik said: The link in my sig has been there since yesterday. No submission to google at all. I put it in last night, by this morning site was on. Normally, I'd go murray's route but figured I'd try this approach. I cannot say that it has worked as well as webmaster tools on google does, but I am impressed with the speed of inclusion. now, to do the job properly...

There was a guy selling highly page-ranked sites the other day on here, you could ask him his sekrets :P

He unfortunately does not want to share his awesome tactics looool

OP: Indexing is quite easily achievable various ways, rather work on your contents of your site for the highest possible ranking

Link Building is still very vague with the new penguin update we all know that linking does make a difference but only if you share similar contents with the other site and that they are at least a Page Rank 5 Site

Contents at the end of the day is King ;)
