Subtitles on Discovery channel?

Dunno if I have done something wrong, or if those particular progs just don't have subtitles, but... On a number of documentaries I've watched on Discovery (The channel 250 one) I'm often left frustrated as someone on the screen rattles off a conversation in some foreign language, and I have no idea what he's saying. Is there a function on the remote to turn subtitles on, or do these progs not have subtitles? I've seen subtitles before on other channels, so am a tad in the dark what is going on here.

Forumites have complained about this on the DSTV forum. This was MC's response:

We have already discussed this with Discovery Channel - they have a couple of programmes which have been aired recently without the English subtitles, which they apologised for and promised to rectify in future.
If you should happen to see a programme without subtitles, please give us episode specifics (series name, episode title, date, etc) so that we can take it up with them again.
