Sudden drop in sync speed

Just a point re ASSIA to watch out for. ASSIA is very quick to degrade your service when the line is degraded (eg after a thunderstorm), but seems to have no ability to automatically restore your profile when the line gets better.
It's supposed to reduce the number of customer support calls, but I wonder...

Another issue that I have with ASSIA's behaviour is that it will unilaterally decide to dial down your link's transmit power, apparently to reduce interference with other users. That's nice for the 'others', not so good if your SNR is already marginal. My situation is far from the exchange on old copper, so high attenuation (currently 52.0 dB). When Telkom resets my profile, I can sync at 4Mbps, but after ASSIA intervenes, I'm lucky to get 2.5.
Oh, and my fibre order is 12 weeks and counting, while next door's is being installed after two weeks. Grrr!
