So, it may be common knowledge for most of you, but for those suckers like me who suddenly had very poor FPS for a few months on games that used to run fine, here is the fix.
So, I believe the issue started when I updated the Nvidia drivers a while back.
Games that use to run fine suddenly starting lagging spectacularly - This after a CPU upgrade.
Naturally I went online and tried every setting and every 'hidden' option - etc.
Nothing helped.
Until I discovered a Nvidia control panel setting that fixed everything.
Under the 3d settings for Nvidia there is a power management setting.
I believe after the last update this changed to 'Adaptive' as the default global setting.
Change this to 'Maximum performance' (Either as the global setting or for the specific game you are having issues with) and say goodbye to low FPS in games you know should not be lagging.
