Sudden slow Steam downloads

My Steam download are extremely slow the past 2 days. I am on a Afrihost/VUMA 1Gb/s line and never get more than50Mb/s, down from the normal 600-700Mb/s.
My line still test normal, it seams to be limited to Steam. Checked all Steam download setting, all seems normal. Other thread suggested disabling IP6, made no difference. Any advice please?

Hi,

Can you confirm if you are using custom DNS servers?
 
Also that your HDD isn't getting too busy. If you see a high green line in the graph on the Steam client, your disk is too busy.

Yes. Please try setting the default Afrihost DNS servers and do a DNS flush on your machine and try a download again.

Steam is now using Akamai to distribute their content. Akamai uses DNS to determine the CDN. We have on network caches and using custom DNS bypasses these and serves the traffic directly from Akamai via Optinet's network. This might be where the bottleneck is.
 
What is causing the hype over custom DNS? Too many TikToks with bad tech advise or what?

IPv6 Roll Out

Why use other DNS and route yourself away from Afrihost in-network caches and CDNs? You're architecting a worse internet experience for yourself. Some important nodes and caches are done based on Afrihosts own DNS. Worst case you're going all over for traffic you could be getting at the first...

If you can create some sort of wild card to force *.akamaized.net to our DNS servers you will have access to the our on network caches for Akamai which basically is a lot of content providers like EA Games, Epic Games, Steam, Riot Games and more.
