Suggested Courses for first year Computer Science

I did BBusSci ComSci -
- Eco's 1. Eco's 2 is much more interesting though.
- Can you do IS 1 and/or 2?
- Dont do Accounts!! - its boring as hell!

He has to do a semester course in IS in 2nd year. I took the 2nd semester course too which was worth it.
 
I did stats and eco's 1. Stats was awesome and interesting but I really hated eco's.

I did a BSc Compsci + Business Info Systems degree.
Working as an IT Solution Architect now - only regret was not doing more business courses

Good advice. I went this route as well.

Not to mention all the hot girls are in marketing :D

Business computing and computer game design all have the same courses in first year.

Dont worry about planning too far ahead. All you need to do is make sure that the first year courses you take are all relevant and will all open up doors for you later on. You might not like programming, or you might not like the business side of IT. So make sure that your first year courses offer enough flexibility so that when it gets to second year, and you have a better idea of what you want, you can change your mind without having to pick up first year courses in second year. Or at least, not more than you need to.

I would do Maths, Stats, Ecos and Com Sci in first year, if that combination is possible. You can substitute management for Ecos, I wish I had done Ecos instead of management. I just find it more interesting than management, management was very dull.

I did (at Rhodes):
First year
Maths 1
Stats 1
Com Sci 1
Management 1
Second year
Com Sci 2
Information Systems 2 (there is no IS1)
Accounting 1 (yuck!)
Physics 1E2/Logic 101
Third year
Com Sci 3
IS3
Honours in Com Sci

Although I didnt really enjoy IS, it probably has more relevance to my career than Maths or Stats would have. Plus I just never liked Maths, I couldnt be bothered to work hard at it. I did okay in Stats, could have continued on if I really wanted to.
