Suggestion for CAP

Yes I second your views on the size of the cap. Telkom should make you CEO.

Not practical! That is far too high
If you asked telkom fo that they would laugh at you, and anyways so much downloading will slow the whole adsl network down.

These are more realistic:

192 = 10GB
384 = 30 GB
512 = 50 GB
1024 = 80 GB

we should set realistic expectations and then maybe telskum will listen

We'll be lucky to get a cloth cap out of telkom - or maybe the type of cap that Tutu wears ... :)

imagine how full your harddrive will be if you download 160gb / month

to how big? 1 terabyte?

1 terabyte will be full in six months anyways if you got 160gb cap

Well I would not complain about R10mil+ a year! :D And I would listen to what you people say!!!

Well, if you listened to us you'd probably get a bit less ;)

I wonder what size hard drives these guys in South Korea have with there 20 Mb ADSL uncapped. :)

Remember streaming audio/video don't take up any space on the HD - although they do use quite alot of bandwidth - same goes for games.

You have forgotten who we are dealing with, they honestly believe that 3gig is enough for any person. The problem does not lie with the 3gig package, it’s the absence of bigger packages that is the problem. Every user has different needs and they are trying to squeeze all of us into 1 package.

And then there is always the problem of price.....

Ummm...ever heard of a CD/DVD writer?? :)

Cap and pricing - all inclusive

192 = 10GB - R200
384 = 30 GB - R300
512 = 50 GB - R400
1024 = 80 GB - R500

Should actually cost much less, but I'm trying to be as reasonable as possible.

A little while ago I got bored and did a small spreadsheet of each account type and throughput. Below are my findings based on the following assumptions.

average power user will be online most nights per month for approximately 4 hours, assuming he/she isn't a total loser and actually goes out about 4 or 5 times a month. I'm also assuming that said user isn't a download junkie and won't have their connection downloading content 24/7

I've averaged a month to 30 days.

DSL192
Max Capacity per month - 53GB (assuming 90% efficiency)
Max Usage based on above assumptions - 11.385GB

DSL384
Max Capacity per month - 106GB (assuming 90% efficiency)
Max Usage based on above assumptions - 22.77GB

DSL512
Max Capacity per month - 142GB (assuming 90% efficiency)
Max Usage based on above assumptions - 30.375GB

DSL1024
Max Capacity per month - 284GB (assuming 90% efficiency)
Max Usage based on above assumptions - 60.75GB

So lets say that the following should be more than enough for your average power user who won't suck the system dry

DSL192 = 15GB
DSL384 = 30GB
DLS512 = 40GB
DSL1024 = 80GB

That would be enough for most people with an extra 30% for those nights where you just gotta download something huge

You people are my HEROS why cant Telkom read this and realise there are people out there that use more than 3Gigs a month?

I will be installing 1TB on RAID 5 soon ....
