Wenger warns off Milan over Adebayor

An exodus from Arsenal? Not if Arsène Wenger can help it. He may have remained as urbane and unflustered as ever yesterday, but there was steel in his words as he warned Milan off Emmanuel Adebayor and insisted that Cesc Fabregas is going nowhere.

Having seen how Real Madrid successfully destabilised Cristiano Ronaldo's position at Manchester United with a barrage of news stories suggesting his move to the Bernabeu was all but done, there was a clear barb yesterday as the Arsenal manager hit back at reports linking Adebayor with a transfer to Serie A.

"If AC Milan are interested in Emmanuel Adebayor, they have to understand he is under firm contract we extended last year," he said. "They have just to call me and they will get the answer they deserve."

La Gazzetta della Sport reported yesterday that Adebayor had already agreed personal terms with Milan, and their vice-president Adriano Galliani had confirmed that the forward was on their list of potential targets for the summer, along with Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona, Chelsea's Didier Drogba, Mario Gomez of VfB Stuttgart and Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov.

"Any of them would be good," he said, although he did admit that prising Adebayor from Arsenal would be difficult given he has four years remaining on his contract.

The Togo striker himself, who was Arsenal's top scorer last season with 30 goals, remains adamant that he will stay loyal.

"I am very happy here," he said. "Reports which suggest I have threatened to quit are rubbish. I love the club and the fans. We have a great set of players here with a fantastic team spirit. We have had a good season, but next year we want to go one better by winning a trophy."

Still, with Alexander Hleb seemingly on his way – probably to Barcelona – and Robin van Persie this week voicing his concerns about the rigour of Arsenal's wage structure, there appears to be a concerted effort on the part of Arsenal to reassure fans and players that a highly promising squad will not disintegrate.

Wenger's words, at a press-conference promoting Castrol's Performance Index technology, reinforced the attack made by the Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood, who said earlier this week that by encouraging players constantly to seek improved deals, agents were leading football towards anarchy.

Fabregas has been persistently linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, but Wenger was quick to head off that rumour as well.

"Fabregas will be at Arsenal next season," he said. "It is obvious to me and there is no doubt." He went on to tip the 21-year-old as a potential player of the tournament. "For me Fabregas is something fantastic to see at a young age," he said.

"I know him well because I see him every day. In a period when football goes more towards athletes, he is a player. If you have the quality, you don't need to run 100m in 10sec. Intelligence helps a lot. It is great to see in the modern game that players of average size in a normal body can still succeed."

Wenger admitted that in the globalised age, when videos of even the most obscure players are only a click of a mouse away, he does not expect any previously unheralded new star to emerge, but he has not wholly closed him mind to the possibility of signings if anybody catches his eye. "I'm here with my cheque book," he said. "I don't rule anything out. If I fall in love with somebody, then why not?"

After every day will post the completed transfers, here are the results from yesterday:

Giovani Dos Santos (Barcelona) to Tottenham - £4.7m

Gorka Pintado (Granada) to Swansea City - £100,000

United To Offer Saha As Bait In Santa Cruz Deal
Manchester United are reportedly set to offer out-of-favour striker Louis Saha as a deal-sweetener as they up their efforts to sign Blackburn hitman Roque Santa Cruz…

News of the World is reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson, pulling the strings from his holiday home in southern France, is keen have the deal wrapped up in time for the start of pre-season training in July.

Ferguson is keen to draft in a high-quality attacking alternative during the summer, as the Red Devils have lacked a genuine target-man since the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2006.

And Sir Alex is eager to include Saha as a makeweight in the proposed ₤10million deal, as the injury-prone French forward has failed to make his mark at United since moving from Fulham in 2004.

A move to Old Trafford would result in a huge wage rise for Santa Cruz, who took a significant pay-cut when joining Rovers from Bayern Munich last summer.

The Red Devils will offer the Paraguayan around ₤75,000-per-week, nearly double what he earned at Ewood Park while scoring an impressive 23 goals last season.

Mourinho After Gerrard, Again?

Internazionale coach Jose Mourinho has been rebuffed yet again in his attempts to lure Steven Gerrard away from Liverpool, according to reports…

News of the World reports that Inter had made the England midfielder a priority target before Mourinho’s arrival, pondering a ₤30million bid before their inquiry into the Reds skipper’s availability was ignored by club and player.

The 28-year-old is keen to stay on Merseyside despite the boardroom battles currently raging at Anfield, and despite Liverpool’s continual failure to challenge for the Premier League title.

Inter had hoped to capitalise on the Reds’ unrest by quietly monitoring the situation to see if Gerrard might be tiring of the upstairs antics and offering him a way out.

During his time at Chelsea, Mourinho twice attempted to sign the boy from Huyton, only to be rejected at the last hour – and the Special One will thus be reluctant to pin his hopes on Gerrard this time around, whether he agrees and move or not.

But ‘Stevie G’ is planning to stay with his boyhood club for the long haul, as he hopes to link up with close friend Gareth Barry next season and continue to forge a dynamic attacking partnership with Fernando Torres.

Remember few seasons back where he was thinking of leaving?

Hope the Alves deal aiwll be CONFIRMED soon. Nothing on the Baca website. Heard he might go for his medical in a few days.

I think it will be confirmed on the website early next week.

Lets hope so.

That is the signing of the years so far. Lots of clubs probably pissed.

Galliani: Chelsea Have Given Drogba Nod
AC Milan have announced that they have been given permission by Chelsea to begin talks with star striker Didier Drogba. However, there is another target for the rossoneri that will not be leaving Stamford Bridge...

Galliani earlier this week told Sky Sports that his meeting with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon was based around the transfer market, but only today have more details come to light.

The transfer guru spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport about his discussions with the London club, revealing that Ivorian hitman Didier Drogba is near the top of their list.

"Chelsea have given us authorisation to open negotiations with Drogba," he said.

However, the vice-president revealed that another Milan target, Andrei Shevchenko, will not be returning to San Siro.

"Unfortunately, we received the response that we feared. Chelsea will not put Andrei up for sale. This conclusion is upsetting."

Meanwhile Galliani confirmed once again that the rossoneri are in talks with unsettled Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o.

Drogba at Milan. Wonder if Deco and Eto will be going there as well.

Im sure all the top English clubs want to sign Eto, but he doesnt want to go there :D

City Edge Towards Ronaldinho Deal
Manchester City are hopeful of negotiating a deal that will see former World Player of the Year, Ronaldinho at Eastlands next season.
The club’s chairman, Garry Cook, revealed to BBC Radio that City representatives are currently in Brazil attempting to broker an agreement.

City have been given permission to approach the player by the club currently holding his registration, Barcelona.

Cook, a former director of the Nike Sportswear firm, stated that Manchester City's attempts to land the 28-year-old are currently in hope rather than expectation, but is confident of progress being made.

He said: "We have people in Brazil, we are nowhere near completing (a deal) but Ronaldinho wants to show that he is one of the greatest footballers in the world.

"The Manchester City fans would love to see him kick off the new season with us and I am holding out hope on that happening."

Expectation at the club is rising, and City seem intent on making their ambition clear with the high-profile capture of Ronaldinho.

Last week, the club appointed Mark Hughes as manager; Sven Goran Eriksson lost his job as a result of the increasing demands of the club’s owner, Thaksin Shinawatra.

I dont think it will but would be good for man city if it does.EPL needs another team outside of the top 4 (more like 3) going for trophies.
Its becoming like the spl.
