Summer Transfers

Rooney is the worse striker out there, they dont need another one like him.
He peaked about 2 years ago and then that was it.I think his still living off that season, sooner or later they will drop him from the national team if his form stays the same.

What i mean is, they need another Rooney like player - like he was 2 years ago.

That youth, that is what is lacking in the United team.

Lol you notice now all the talk about Villa, when anyone who knows football or watches la liga knew his an amazing player before last nights match.

You know whats funny, when Barca was chasing him a few weeks ago. I made a big thing about it.

Now after last nights match, the United crew and Liverpool users are all saying he is coming to them. :D and how they want him.

Remember how Villa destroyed Real Madrid last season?

Now they all saying his gonna sign for them.

His been linked with Real Madrid but would have been good if Barca had signed him.

City's four-stage route to Ronaldinho
Manchester City's discussions with Ronaldinho in Brazil have left them convinced that the player wants to sign for them and that some of the commercial obstacles to him signing also appear to have been overcome.

Despite assurances from the player's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis, that he was ready to swap Barcelona for Manchester, City have needed reassurances from Ronaldinho and he appears to have provided them during four days of talks between his representatives and those of City's owner, Thaksin Shinawatra.

Another impediment to a deal with Ronaldinho, who would command a salary in excess of £100,000 a week at City, is the prospective loss of earnings stemming from leaving a Nike-sponsored club. Thaksin said last week that "sponsors will contribute; it will not damage our wage structure" and one of the ideas being explored is of a Nike subsidiary sponsoring the player in Britain.

City view the discussions with Ronaldinho as a four-stage plan. The first three – establishing the player's enthusiasm for the move; resolving sponsorship issues and then finalising a legal and contractual agreement – will establish whether Thaksin's "dream" of hiring Ronaldinho is even feasible. That explains Mark Hughes' absence from discussions to date.

Despite the progress in Porto Alegre, the complexities mean that City's new manager may not meet with Ronaldinho to make a personal assessment of his fitness and general state of readiness for the Premier League until next month. Hughes took his main summer holiday before City came calling, so he is ready to see him at the first opportunity.

Hughes has made clear that City need to work on the physical element of their game – an aspect patently missing against the physically minded sides such as Blackburn and Everton last season.

"This is an extremely difficult league to take part in and it's certainly not easy to compete from the start of the season right until the end," Hughes said. "It's a hard task, but what I have always felt is that to give yourself the best opportunity to be successful you have to be physically capable to do the job that's asked of you. That means a lot of work on the training ground, and a lot of work in the gym, so we have to ensure we have that base of fitness that enables you to perform at the highest level, which is what we have to do in the Premier League."

Martin Petrov, arguably Eriksson's most consistent signing after his arrival for £4.7m from Atletico Madrid last summer, said yesterday that sacking Hughes' predecessor Sven Goran Eriksson was "a big mistake" but seems to agree with Hughes' focus on fitness work.

"The Big Four is rich, that's why they have so many good players, even in their reserve teams, who are ready to step in to replace first-team regulars," he told Bulgarian weekly Kapital. "Teams like us, we accumulate fatigue, injuries and suspensions. That is what happened with us this season – we were good until January and then came the descent into ninth place."

Carvalho set to join exodus at Chelsea
While the wait for an announcement of a new Chelsea manager drags on, it was Ricardo Carvalho's turn to become the latest senior player to leave the door open to a move away from the club. The Portugal defender, regarded as yet another potential target for Jose Mourinho at Internazionale, said yesterday that he would meet chief executive Peter Kenyon after Euro 2008 to discuss his future.

Carvalho, 30, is known to be unsettled at Chelsea and, prior to Portugal's game tonight against the Czech Republic here, he said that he had not made up his mind whether he would be staying once the tournament was over. The defender, who joined Chelsea for £19m in 2004, said it would have no effect on him whether Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed Chelsea manager and was less than unequivocal about his future. "I have a contract with Chelsea, I have to carry this contract on," he said. "But sometimes a new challenge is a good thing. I'm very happy at Chelsea. I'll have to speak with Peter Kenyon after the tournament.

Kenyon is in Italy contemplating the break-up of a squad built largely by Mourinho in his first two years at the club. With Didier Drogba's move to Milan now an open secret, there are also serious doubts over whether Frank Lampard will sign the contract that has been on offer to him for the last year. Wayne Bridge and Shaun Wright-Phillips are also among the disaffected. Chelsea hope that Carvalho, who signed a new five-year deal last May, can be priced out of the market.

Carvalho's future has become a source of interest around the Portugal camp. Asked whether there was a chance of him going to Inter, Carvalho said: "I've heard a few comments, it's a club matter I'm focused on playing for the national team, and then we'll see. Yes, I would love to be coached by Mr Mourinho, the majority of trophies I've won were with Jose, but now we are in a new cycle with Chelsea. Let's see what happens."

Now emerging as the favourite to take over as manager at Chelsea, Scolari will announce his plans for his own future after Euro 2008. However, yesterday he said he could envisage working outside of Portugal and Brazil – the only two places he has managed thus far. "I have a contract with the Portuguese federation and I will fulfil my contract to the end and then afterwards we will see what happens. For the atmosphere, the love of Portugal, it will be difficult to leave but I'm a professional and I have lived everywhere in the world."

Chelsea are gonna build an even stronger team. Chelsea fans are probably happy some of their top okes are going.

Cos Roman, will buy another team to challenge this year.

Ya I think after the Euro his going to go on his spending spree.

They need youngsters in the Chelsea team. Maybe thats why they cant win a CL. Cos they want to buy established stars. Need some youth i say.
