Summer Transfers

That sums it up. We were right all along Supa.

That is 100% what we said. Dont blame Madrid. People on this forum said, Real Madrid were to blame, where in fact in this article, Ronaldo admits that he is the one who caused all this and Madrid are not to blame.

"I knew that Real Madrid were interested in signing me and that they had allegedly made a very high offer to Manchester United.

So madrid did not want to sign him, strange, atleast the news papers sold alot of copies :p

Yep exactly, Glad the whole circus is now done.Wonder how the manchester reception is going to be for the fool when he gets back on the pitch.

One thing for sure is that he wont have another season like his last one, his market value will never be as high and I think he knew this hence wanting to move to Real now.

Well supa i doubt he will have a good season in the beginning considering he out for awhile and players are never back to normal after a long spell out.

Well i don't really care what happens off the pitch as long as he performs on it, United are paying him money to play football not to be loyal to them, you cannot buy loyalty.

Chelsea Make Robinho Bid - Official

Chelsea have made real their interest in the 24-year-old ace despite the fact that Madrid have proved unable to land Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Received wisdom had it that Robinho was to leave for England when the Portuguese winger came the other way, but with the Ronaldo deal failing to pan out such plans were called into question.

However Robinho, who signed up at the Bernabéu from Santos in 2005, apparently has other ideas. The Brazilian international was said to be tremendously upset at his potentially being used as a bargaining chip in the Ronaldo deal and began to plot his exit from there.

His being refused permission to travel to the Beijing Olympics, ostensibly due to injury, upset him further, with his agent relating that the player was reduced to tears by this development.

In the aftermath of such dramas the mercurial forward told the press that he had spoken to Chelsea and could not rule out a move, even in the wake of media reports that he was to pen a new deal with the blancos.

Further newspaper mumblings today indicate that Madrid coach Bernd Schuster may be willing to part with Robinho, and as such he and sporting director Predrag 'Pedja' Mijatovic will have some serious thinking to do.

The Blues, for their part, are thought to have their heart set on the São Vicente-born ace as their final signing of the summer.

Arshavin desperate to complete Tottenham transfer
Friday, 08 August 2008 18:27

Zenit St Petersburg's Russian star Andrei Arshavin has revealed that he is desperate to complete his move to North London club Tottenham Hotspur and is hoping that his consistent whinging will convince the club to sell him.

Zenit have raised Arshavin's price tag to a reported £21million, with the 27-year-old now fearing he has been priced out of the market. The midfielder has agreed terms with Spurs but Zenit's high asking price have caused negotiations to stall.
This price tag has frightened everybody off,' said Arshavin.

'Only Tottenham have dared continue negotiations. But as it stands nothing has developed.

'My desire to leave is still as strong, but there is nothing more to do now other than hope for a miracle.

'I understand perfectly well that if I don't move on now, I probably never will.

'I'm just hoping that one fine morning the bosses at Gazprom will wake up in a good mood and say: "We've had enough of Arshavin's whining - let's let him go"'.

Arshavin admitted after the EURO 2008 tournament that he would prefer to join Spanish giants Barcelona but Barcelona pulled out of talks with the Russian club because of the asking price. His dream move to Barca seems to have ended when they completed the transfer of Arsenal's playmaker Aleksander Hleb.

"When Tottenham made their offer I was sceptical at first,' Arshavin continued.

'But after Ramos called me personally and told me that that they were selling Robbie Keane and that he wanted me in his side, the situation changed.

'When a coach shows an interest in you, especially such a renowned and strong coach, then that is already half of the success of any move.

'I also like the way Tottenham play, so I agreed in principle to join.

'A short while later a representative from Spurs arrived to discuss my personal terms and contract.

'The discussion didn't take long and we agreed on everything quickly.
'Only then did my asking price go up.

'Tottenham have a decent squad with (Luka) Modric, (Dimitar) Berbatov and other players, and the club is fully capable of fighting for a place in the Champions League.

'The main thing is to try my strengths in a league like the English Premier League and play against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal on a regular basis rather than once every five years.'

Arshavin's coach, Dick Advocaat believes that Tottenham will come back with an improved offer after selling Robbie Keane to Liverpool for 25 million Euro's.
The Dutchman said: 'I am sure Tottenham will be back to make another, more suitable offer for Arshavin's transfer.

'There is no set time period or deadline for this. Zenit are doing everything in the correct way.

'If Tottenham can sell Robbie Keane to Liverpool for 25 million euros then in my opinion they should pay good money for Arshavin.'

His club are trying to sell him for far too much money.A couple of seasons ago Newcastle were going to buy him for something liek 4million, now after 2 good games in the euro his price is now more than doubled.

Its bad for the guy though, as barca may have purchased him if the price was realistic and he wanted to play for barca.

Doubled? His club are looking at over 27 million as far as i know, i read they turned down 27 million and want around 30m which is far more than 4x.

Well when your a Russian club who knows english clubs can pay that for a player why would they sell him cheap?

Barcelona's loss if you ask me, if they are not prepared to pay good money for good players, thats their problem. He has always been good in Russia and lets be honest he looks like quite a talent if you ask me.

I wonder where publachenko (spelling :) will land up, also very good player. russia have another Striker who missed the Euro who is rated better than pavlachenko(spelling), anyone know his name can't find it.

Read my post I said more than doubled.

Spanish clubs spend far more on players than the english, go look at the most expensive transfers in history most come from spanish clubs. So money is not a issue, the issue is a player being over-priced.

Why waste money on a player with no champs-leaue experience and no experience in a big league. For the same price you can get a far better player.

FFS the guy is 27, not a young talent and by 27 players in that price-range have a achieved far more.

Spurs wont pay their high asking price, they not stupid. The club is going to have to drop the asking price.I'm glad Barca ended buying Hleb instead.

You dont understand. It wasnt a money issue at all.

If he came to Barca, where will he play? He will warm the bench. I remember some footy websites were sayinf that it will be his worst mistake in his career if he had to come to Barca, cos he wont get any game time.

27 million is way too high anyway. Thats like Eto money... and i think we all know Eto is in another class compared to Arshavin.

Benitez Furious as Owners pull out of Barry Deal
Saturday, 09 August 2008 09:38

Liverpool manager Rafeal Benitez's relationship with the club's American owners reached a new low point last night when it emerged that the American owners had decided to pull out of the deal for Gareth Barry with Aston Villa. It is well known that Barry was Benitez's main summer transfer target and the two club's had been in on-going negotiations for months now with Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill finally admitting last week that Barry would be sold.

According to The Times, not only did Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr veto the manager’s bid to buy Gareth Barry but that the American duo had turned down an offer of a £12 million interest-free loan to help to buy the Aston Villa midfield player.

The loan - which The Times understands was proposed by a millionaire Liverpool fan concerned about the ramifications for the club if the deal fell through - was offered this week and rejected by the owners. The £12 million would have financed the initial installments demanded by Villa.

"Hicks and Gillett agreed to provide the £18 million to buy Barry a week ago after Martin O’Neill, the Villa manager, conceded defeat in his battle to keep his captain. However, the owners have made a U-turn and told BenÍtez on Thursday that Barry is too expensive and, at 27, lacks resale value. The club last month paid Tottenham Hotspur £20.3 million for Robbie Keane, who is 28.

The owners had failed to express their reservations about Barry during the protracted transfer saga and their misgivings this week drew suspicions that they could not find the cash to pay for him.
Hicks and Gillett have strenuously denied rumours that they are in financial trouble. Sources close to the owners suggested last night that they had refused the loan because they had enough money to seal the deal themselves.

Either way, the news that money was available will infuriate BenÍtez, because it appears that Hicks and Gillett are questioning his judgment. The Americans have also raised questions about the number of central midfield players in the squad and suggested that BenÍtez has enough talent to work with in that area.

Spokesmen for both Gillett and Hicks refused to comment last night." the paper went on to add.

This is definitely not a good way for Liverpool to start their league campaign and will cast fresh doubts over the managers future because Benitez left his former club Valencia for the exact same reason, board interference.

Still don't really understand the persistence rafa is showing for barry, especially considering that everyone agrees Pool need wingers.

I also dont undertand why he would go after a player like GB. IMO he is good but to compete with MUnited,Chelsea & Arsenal, you need players like Fabregas,Ballack,Essien etc.

Or am I wrong ?

It's almost as baffling as playing Kuyt at RM :o

Liverpool deny rift about Barry
Gareth Barry
Benitez has made it clear that he is eager to sign Barry

Liverpool have denied there is a rift between manager Rafa Benitez and the club's American owners over the proposed signing of Gareth Barry.

Yet chief executive Rick Parry has confirmed that owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks think Aston Villa's £18m asking price for Barry is inflated.

"On this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high," Parry said.

Benitez has made no secret of his eagerness to add the England international to his squad.

Reports had claimed Benitez was at odds with Hicks and Gillett over the player's signing.

This is not about questioning the manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player

Rick Parry
Liverpool chief executive

Benitez was said to be willing to pay the £18m asking price for Barry, while the American owners believed it was too much for the 27-year-old.

But Liverpool issued a statement on their website late on Saturday in which Parry said: "This is not about questioning the manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player.

"The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so.

"It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high."

After Liverpool beat Lazio 1-0 in a friendly on Friday, Benitez reiterated his desire to sign Barry.

"The situation is not a question of money," he said. "He is English and can play three different positions, but I am talking about someone who can play on the left."

Barry can play in central midfield, on the left side of midfield and at left-back.

Silva lining for Benitez?
So after the whole embarrassing Gareth Barry debacle Liverpool's American are reportedly looking at making a bid for Valencia's Spanish star David Silva. According to the News Of The World the club is ready to make a £18 million bid for the Valencia winger in an attempt to make Benitez happy.

"LIVERPOOL’S American owners will attempt to win back Rafa Benitez’s trust with an £18million bid for Valencia winger David Silva.

Kop boss Benitez is furious after the collapse of the Gareth Barry deal left him looking foolish.

Now owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett know they have to do something quickly to appease the Spaniard.

They blocked a move for Barry because they considered Aston Villa’s £18m valuation excessive.

They want to resurrect a bid for Silva, a hero of Spain’s Euro 2008 win and an Anfield target earlier this summer.

But Manchester United are ready to hijack the deal by making their own £20m bid and Arsenal are also interested.

And a move for Silva might not appease Benitez — who, amazingly, is backing a deal for a millionaire friend to pump upwards of £12m into Anfield." the paper claimed.

The club CEO Rick Parry released an official statement late last night in an effort to show that all is well at Anfield.

"This is not about questioning the manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player.

"On this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high," Parry said.

"The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so.

Double edged sword this one.

At least Parry and the owners have enough sense to realise Barry would be a waste of money but they're undermining the manager by deciding who he can spend the cash on
