Barca Launch Bid For Pirlo
According to SKY Italia. Barcelona are preparing a massive transfer bid for unsettled Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo.
»Comments (27) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom Pirlo is widely regarded as the best deep lying playmaker in world football, and a crucial part of the AC Milan set-up.

However the 29-year-old, who has had a poor domestic season, is said to be unsettled at San Siro and considering his future.

Pirlo is unhappy about the lucrative contract that new signing Mathieu Flamini received, as well as the financial improvements that many of his team-mates have recently had on their deals.

New Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Pirlo, partly because he has a similar style of play to which the Spaniard had when he was a player.

SKY Italia says that Guardiola wants to build his Barca midfield around Pirlo next season, and is set to make a huge transfer bid for the player.

Pirlo is currently on international duty with the Italian national team ahead of Euro 2008. The Azzurri play their first game of the tournament in Group C on Monday night against Holland, and Pirlo is certain to be key to their chances of success.

Striker wants to join Spurs

Spurs boss Juande Ramos is keen on adding to his squad at White Hart Lane

« Previous « PreviousNext » Next »View GalleryADVERTISEMENTGiovani dos Santos appears to be edging closer to a move from Barcelona to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old Mexico midfielder told Spanish newspaper Sport that he expects to be wearing a Spurs shirt when the new campaign gets under way.

"Next season I will be playing for Tottenham," he said.

Dos Santos has undergone an ankle operation since scoring a hat-trick for Barca at the end of the season, and Spurs have been reported to be monitoring his recovery.

So far this summer, head coach Juande Ramos has signed Croatia playmaker Luka Modric from Dinamo Zagreb, while teenager John Bostock has agreed to join from Crystal Palace but a fee has not been agreed with the two clubs.

With Dimitar Berbatov's future uncertain, Ramos has been linked with a host of players from Spain, the latest suggestion being Sergio Garcia, who plays as a forward for Real Zaragoza and a winger for his country.

Goalkeeper Radek Cerny has been allowed to leave for QPR and more are expected to follow, including the likes of Ricardo Rocha and Lee Young-Pyo.

Cerny's departure means another goalkeeper is among the priorities for Ramos and sporting director Damien Comolli

What you think spurs are going to do this season?

Hughes: I Will Decide On 'Dinho
As Manchester City edge ever closer to capturing Barcelona superstar Ronaldinho, new manager Mark Hughes has insisted he will have the final say over whether the Brazilian joins the club…
»Comments (9) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom City are currently in the midst of discussions with Ronaldinho and his brother-cum-agent Roberto de Assis Moreira, and a deal looks increasingly likely to be agreed as new Barca boss Josep Guardiola prepares to revitalise his squad.

Sky Blues owner Thaksin Shinawatra is desperate to land the two-time FIFA World Player of the Year, having admitted recently he would be a dream signing.

But Hughes has warned that, while he is certainly excited at the prospect managing such an overwhelming talent, he must approve the deal before the 28-year-old may move to Eastlands.

Exciting

“There’s a lot of talk about the players who might be coming,” said Hughes. “I’m interested in outstanding talent and Ronaldinho comes into that bracket.

“If he is available and we have the means to get him in, then we have to look at it. It’s exciting to be linked with those type of players.

“But it’s a football decision and those decisions will be taken by me.”

Philosophy

The former Manchester United forward will be keen to stamp his authority on the City squad during the summer, having recently completed the switch from Blackburn Rovers.

And his right-hand man Mark Bowen has warned that under-performing players will be given nowhere to hide, insisting Hughes is not shy of upsetting the crockery when required.

“His main philosophy is to ensure players can’t blame anyone else for their own poor performance,” Bowen said.

“He tries to prepare teams so they’ve covered every single base — so if they get beat, he could come in and start throwing the odd teacup.”

Ya, i hope Spurs actually kicks Liverpool out for a CL place or even Man city or Everton can kick them out.

Cos every year they dont challenge for the league title. I hope they will this season.

I think Benítez will get fired if their champs league spot gets lost. That has been the only reason his still in charge, his performance in europe.

Welcome to Barca!

Strengthing our defence.

FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of José Martín Cáceres. The transfer fee has been set at €16.5 million.

The defenderwill sign a four-year contract with the Blaugrana and will have a buy-out clause of €50 million inserted in to the deal.

Martín Cáceres arrived in Barcelona this morning and will undergo a medical examination at the club’s medical facilities at 16.00 this afternoon. The press will also be given a photo opportunity at the same time.

Caceres will complete his medical on Friday and is scheduled to officially sign for the club at noon the same day, when the press will again have an opportunity to photograph Barca’s latest signing.

Chelsea favourites to sign Eto'o

According to reports in Marca, Chelsea are the best-placed to sign Barça`s Samuel Eto`o.

Samuel Eto`o`s agent, José María Mesalles, will be travelling to Cameroon this weekend to show the striker the offers that have been tabled for the Cameroon international`s services. Apparently there are 3 clubs that have expressed an interest in Eto`o: Chelsea, Inter and Milan.

All this is in today`s 'Marca`, which adds that Chelsea are the best placed to sign him. Milan`s chances are quite low given that Berlusconi`s club will not be participating in next season`s Champions League: Eto`o is apparently keen to leave Barça on a quest for silverware and the Champions League is his prime objective.

Inter are also keen, but recently appointed coach José Mourinho might not be too keen on Eto`o, preferring another African striker that he knows well, Didier Drogba. In any case, Inter already have Ibrahimovic on their books.

By elimination, says 'Marca`, Chelsea are the best-placed to sign Eto`o, particularly as the Blues are likely to have a Drogba-shaped hole in their front line next season.

The price quoted is something between €35 and €40 million.

We really wonder if Eto`o is the striker that Chelsea are chasing. He has certainly been on Chelsea`s radar in previous summers. However, Eto`o is a difficult character, a divisive influence in the dressing room. To give an idea of his personality off the pitch, he`s currently under charge in Cameroon … for having head-butted a journalist.

Besides, in the absence of a coach, is it really the case that Chelsea are pressing ahead to identify possible signings?
