Liverpool Join Busquets Race
Liverpool have joined the rapidly growing list of clubs interested in signing Sergio Busquets, with Barca's latest prodigy attracting unprecedented levels of interest...
»Comments (48) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom Following on from the news that Arsenal and Juventus are seriously considering making an approach for Sergio Busquets, it has emerged that Liverpool are the latest club in awe of the midfielder.

The young midfielder has only played six league games at senior level, but already it appears as though all of Europe is after him. Off contract at the end of the season, clubs will soon be able to negotiate with Busquets, and it seems that money is no barrier. Liverpool and Milan are both reportedly ready to offer the youngster double what he is currently on, an enticing prospect for even the most loyal of players.

All of this could be prevented, of course, if Busquets accepts Barca's impending new contract offer. However, early talks between Txiki Begiristain and Josep Maria Orobitg, Busquet's representative, have hit a stumbling block over the financial issue. The midfielder has re-iterated his loyalty to Barca, however, which should provide a strong basis for further negotiations.

Given Busquet's famous heritage ( his father Carles played 79 games for Barca), the club will be loathe to lose him on a free transfer at the end of the season, a realistic prospect if contract talks do not advance soon.

City To Bid 50m Euros for Villa

They shocked the football world by pinching Robinho from under Chelsea's noses on transfer deadline day in August, and now Manchester City are planning an audacious bid to team up the brilliant Brazilian with the dynamic Spaniard.

Reports from magazine 'The People' suggest that manager Mark Hughes has earmarked Villa, who finished top scorer at Euro 2008 and currently leads the race for the Pichichi in La Liga, as the man to score the goals to take City to the next level as serious challengers to the top four.

Former Barcelona player Hughes has issued a glowing report to the clubs owners in order for them to launch an enquiry regarding the players availability.

The report also suggests that a bid of 50m Euros is to be tabled to test Valencia's resilience, but the question remains whether Villa will want to move away from the Mestalla, having apparently rejected the advances of Real Madrid over the summer. However, every player has a price and it appears that the Manchester club certainly has the funds to meet whatever asking price that Los Che demand for the player.

Maradona New Coach Of Argentina

Maradona had been in a four-way tussle with Carlos Bianchi, Miguel Angel Russo and Sergio Batista to take over from Alfio Basile, who resigned a fortnight ago after a World Cup qualifying defeat to Chile.

Earlier this evening there was speculation that Maradona may win the race and now it has been confirmed that El Pibe d'Oro has indeed been appointed as the new national team coach of Argentina.

Although many expected one of the three other candidates to be his assistant, the responsibility will be given to Carlos Bilardo, who coached Argentina when Maradona guided them to the 1986 World Cup.
"We just had a meeting, we are happy about what was said for the Argentine national team," stated Maradona.

Although AFA president Julio Grondona has yet to announce it to the press, reports suggest that the official presentation will take place on Thursday the 30th of October, when Maradona turns 48 years old.

"I can't open the present yet, we have to wait because we have to continue to talk," the 1986 World Cup winner affirmed in declarations to radio La Red.

Maradona also stated that he will be the only person in charge to select who plays for the national team: "I will choose the team, I will be the only one to do so. Of course I will be listening to Carlos (Bilardo) in everything, because you can't avoid listening to a man who knows so much," he added.

"I think the project will be exactly how Julio (Grondona) would like it, in what I want, and in what Carlos wants," added Maradona.

When asked who his coaching team will consist of, he said: "I still have to choose my right hand. I have to talk to Checho (Batista) and with Tata Brown. Afterwards we will decide with Carlos."

The former coach of Deportivo Mandiyu and Racing Club also stated that he will take the players who play in the local Argentine competition into consideration: "We have been talking about this, the directors know this very well. When the national team needs it, the directors have to put on the Argentina shirt. With that base we will do well."

Maradona admitted that he has to put a "winning mentality" into the heads of all Argentine players, those who ply their trade in the domestic Argentine competition, as well as those in Europe.

Grondona called Maradona on Tuesday, after "El Diez" arrived from Tiflis, Georgia, and soon he notified him that he would replace Alfio Basile as the new coach of Argentina. Maradona will sign a contract that will expire after the end of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, of course with an option for an extension, depending on his performance.

I think the board brought in Redknapp because he is one to save struggling teams. This season Tottenham cant afford to go down. Also, if you look at the Redknapp history with tottenham he wouldn't say no. He love the club, hes supported them since he was a kid and his son played there. A no brainer!

Yeah. Tottenham know they will be totally fukd if they get relegated. Just as Leeds were when they went down. Luckily for Spurs though West Brom, fulham, Stoke and Bolton are also piss poor this season.
Lets see if Harry can work his magic tonight by picking up some points against Arsenal.

Los Merengues' president was responding to a strongly-worded interview by the fiery Scot in a recent issue of GQ magazine which was clearly influenced by the Spanish club's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo last season.

Ferguson used the one subject that he knew would rile Madrid and trod on ground where most Spaniards fear to tread by bringing up Madrid's strong links to the Franco regime.

"What made it really obscene was that Madrid, as General Franco's club, had a history of being able to get whoever and whatever they wanted, before democracy came to Spain," the manager said.

Marca were clearly unhappy as they appeared to use Ferguson's working class background to explain why he had chosen to make a statement about the el Real's history.

On the front page of Thursday's edition, the Madrid-biased periodical had a five-picture mock up of Ferguson morphing into Franco above the headline "Ferguson Senile".

The paper stated inside that the United boss was saying things and doing things at Old Trafford that were influenced by his age and that his senility was ensuring that he said things like the recent interview.

Calderón recognised that he was not going to sign Ronaldo in the summer and is evidently not keen for the matter to resurface given the recent spate of criticism his presidency has attracted from Madrid fans.

"I'm not going to waste any time answering him, I admire his record, but he is getting old," he told Marca.

United Announce New Sponsor

United Announce New Sponsor
Manchester United chief executive David Gill has announced details of a new sponsorship deal with Swiss watchmakers Hublot.
»Comments (3) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom The deal between the European champions and the Swiss company is due to last for three years, and follows the initiatve shown in the deals with Budweiser, Seoul Metropolitan Government and Saudi Telecom.

Given the current financial climate and the problems encountered by the club's shirt sponsor AIG, it gives the Glazer-owned outfit added economic clout.

David Gill played up manager Sir Alex Ferguson's punctiliousness in regard to timekeeping when he told the press: "We are delighted to welcome such a prestigious partner as Hublot to the Manchester United family.

"Their reputation for excellence and innovation makes them a fitting and exciting sponsor for the club. Sir Alex (Ferguson) is known as a stickler for timekeeping, both on and off the pitch, now we have a partner that shares his passion."

Benzema: Next Year I'll Go To Barça Or Madrid

The French prodigy has interested many of Europe's top clubs, but he has now revealed that he will be heading to la Primera next term and has invited the two biggest clubs to vie for his signature.

Barça have repeatedly shown an interest in Benzema, while Madrid were linked with him before they embarked on their quest to prise Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford.

In an interview on French television, the 20-year-old revealed that he was ready to leave his boyhood club and his family home in Lyon to play for the Blaugrana or Los Merengues.

"My future? I like Spain. Next year I will play for Barça or Madrid," he told France 2's Stade 2 programme.

United have been following Benzema's progress and Sir Alex Ferguson was said to have been interested in signing him before turning to Dimitar Berbatov this year.

Lyon may allow him to leave the club, but it will be on their own terms and they believed to be only prepared to listen to offers that could break the record transfer fee having quoted €100 million earlier this year.

One criticism of Benzema is that he is not yet ready to step up and become a star at one of Europe's biggest clubs, but the player himself thinks that is unfair.

"Some people have said I cannot play at the highest level. How ridiculous. I have a lot to learn and am still growing. I am only 20 and am working hard to improve all the time," he countered.

Zinedine Zidane moved to Juve at 24 and Thierry Henry was 22 when he went to Italy and questions are being asked if Benzema is being forced out of French football too early.

The guy is older than Bojan and messi, so I dont think his 2 young. Also coming to Barca where they have a history of having a lot of home grown young talent example:Xavi,Messi,Bojan,Puyol,Iniesta to name a few..will be a good thing for his career.

Ouch

In other news, the Mirror claims United have been dealt a major blow after transfer target Karim Benzema revealed he wants to join Barcelona or Real Madrid next summer. But, according to The Sun, the Reds have agreed a deal to sign Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph in January. The left-sided star, 18, has been watched by the Reds for months and a fee of close to £5million has been agreed.

Arsenal likely to buy Yaya Toure and possibly rumours of Carlos Tevez this January as Man Utd look to buy Huntelaar or Obafemi Martins as a replacement for Carlos Tevez and also a third attacking option.
