Man City agree price for Bellamy​

Manchester City have agreed a fee with West Ham to sign striker Craig Bellamy, the London club have confirmed.

The Welshman was left out of the squad for Sunday's 3-1 win over Fulham after making it clear to club officials on Friday that he wanted to leave.

And the Hammers thrashed out a deal with City on Sunday after resigning themselves to losing the 29-year-old.

The fee is thought to be £14m, while Spurs' interest has ended after West Ham refused to do business with them.

Tottenham were Bellamy's first choice of club, but the Hammers are reluctant to sell to their London rivals and always preferred the option of selling to City.

Bellamy is now expected to travel to Eastlands on Monday to discuss personal terms, although it appears that will be a formality with City ready to offer him a bumper contract.

The development appears to have ended one of the hottest transfer stories of the January transfer window so far, despite the Hammers' desire to keep hold of a player who has four goals in his last four league games, helping the Londoners up to eighth in the table.

West Ham chief executive Scott Duxbury revealed to BBC Sport that he had rejected six bids for Bellamy, thought to be from City and Tottenham, earlier in the month.

However, BBC Sport understands Bellamy, who had a transfer request turned down at the start of last week, walked out of training on Friday after telling the club he wanted to leave.

And it now looks certain the move, the eighth of Bellamy's career, will go ahead, reuniting the striker with former Wales manager and assistant Mark Hughes and Mark Bowen.

Bowen had told BBC Sport on Thursday: "Of course we're interested in Craig Bellamy, he is a player we very much admire and we are hopeful we can bring him to Manchester City.

"We've known Craig for many years, and had him at Blackburn Rovers, and we know what he brings to any team he plays for.

"It does make me smile as I think he is one of those players who you either love or hate. But fans of teams that he has played for love him and know what he gave for their team."

Bellamy, who joined West Ham for £7.5m last season, has previously had spells at Norwich, Coventry, Newcastle, Celtic, Blackburn and Liverpool - and has 16 goals in 54 appearances for Wales.

Meanwhile, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola says he will be able to use the money received for Bellamy to buy a replacement, despite the club's financial problems and suggestions owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson is looking to sell.

"If he doesn't want to stay we can't do anything about it," said Zola. "The player has told me his wishes and I respect that, so I stand by him.

"He wants to have another experience and go to another club where he might think he will get something better. Sometimes it happens.

"I will get the money to spend on other players. We are looking at targets."

SV Hamburg's Nigel De Jong is set to complete his £15 million switch to Eastlands in the next 48 hours.

The Dutch international is expected to be City's third signing of the January transfer window, with Craig Bellamy's move from West Ham expected to be wrapped up by Tuesday.

Holding midfield player De Jong has represented Holland 30 times and was one of Marco Van Basten's star performers at last summer's Euro 2008 finals.

Hamburg's former Spurs manager Martin Jol admitted he was ready to let go one of his prized assets, telling Die Welt:

"I'm accustomed to it," he informed Welt Online. "There are such operations in this business again and again.

"That does not bother me anymore.

"Of course it is annoying. As a coach, I always want to keep my best players.

"But, if the two clubs find a solution, and the player decides to move, then I can accept it.

"As a club, you have to make decisions which, at first glance, appear painful. Sometimes it is a step back to then make three steps forward.

"So it was when Rafael van der Vaart had to leave to Real Madrid."

Meanwhile Mark Hughes confirmed his admiration for the former Ajax man: "He is a player I like and who would help us if we can bring him here," Hughes told the Manchester Evening News.

If he wasn't that bad why did he fail to establish himself at lfc?? Why has the best he has managed been at middle to lower level clubs??

K a k a has been constantly rated as one of the best in the world.

a Player is always worth as much as the buying club is willing to buy for. For Man city's owner 100 million is a drop in the ocean. Hence K a k a is worth that much.

The reason people have an issue with the amount is because they or their clubs will probably never have that amount of cash. What city is nothing different to what many of the other rich owners across europe has doing for decades. The only difference is that its at a bigger scale and so far no one has arrived to match city.

It was out of hand before as well. Like I said before now the bar is just raised again.

Football has and will always be the play ground of the super rich in the professional era. You argue that players get paid too much but you can say the same about the f1 drivers,nba,nfl players,ect.

This is the way football is and it isn't going to change. The only thing that will change is the amounts of money. What may eventually happen is the formation of a european super league so that the super clubs can play each other and the less fortunate can compete in a well balanced league. Problem with that is the smaller clubs need the big clubs to survive. If the big clubs leave the leagues those leagues tv deals will collapse straight away.
 
So why didnt the United camp think it was out of hand when Ronaldo was offered this amount of money.

Most stupid thing i believe United did was to not sell Ronaldo when Madrid was gonna give them their biggest payday ever.

No player is worth that kinda money. Altho, how do clubs sell these big stars, Messi, Ronaldo, K a k a etc - how much do they sell for?

Can you imagine Ronaldo being sold for anything less than 60 million>?

I know. It is a crazy world we are living in these days.

I have no idea how much they should sell them for. Maybe they should just stay where they are :p
