Summer Transfers

Just saw Bellamy have a medical at Man City on Sky sports.

I don't think he is who they should have gone and bought, but maybe City will be the club where he finally fulfils potential.

I still don't know how a team with such good players on paper can be doing so poorly.

Poor management of players maybe. I cant think of any other reasons. I remember someone was argueing with me on this forum saying that City's players are pathetic.

They actually have quite a good squad.

NO!

I was the one defending their squad. If i had the effort right now, i would search for it - but i dont feel like it.

Aha. Ok. I cannot be bothered to search for it so I will take your word...

Their squad is solid. It wasn't even that bad before they got SWP and Robinho.

Missing one player tho. Petrov, he was the best crosser of the ball in the EPL last season in my opinion.

The relegation battle must be getting to him.

Robinho walk-out stuns Man City

Robinho could be punished by Manchester City after leaving the club's training camp in Tenerife without permission.

City have given no official reason for the Brazilian's departure and are refusing to comment on speculation that he has returned to South America.

But executive chairman Garry Cook told the BBC: "I do know Robinho is not at the training centre in Tenerife.

"If he has left the training ground it is a breach of club discipline. I am waiting for a full debrief."

City smashed the British transfer record when they paid Real Madrid £32.5m for the 24-year-old in August last year.

The Brazilian striker has scored 12 goals for his new club and become a favourite of the club's fans.

Portsmouth sign Pennant on loan
Portsmouth have signed Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has played only four times for the Reds this season and had been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

"I've known him for a long time - we were together at Arsenal a long, long time ago," Portsmouth boss Tony Adams told the club website.

"He was a very exciting prospect. He's quick and very technically gifted and he can have a go at defenders."

Pennant began his career with Notts County and made headlines when Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger paid £2m for him as a 15-year-old in 1999.

But he failed to live up to expectations at the Gunners, and was loaned out to Watford, Leeds and Birmingham before joining the Blues on a permanent deal in 2005.

He moved to Liverpool in 2006, and has made 81 appearances for the club since joining them for a fee of £6.7m.

His appearances for the Reds this season have been severely limited, but he insisted last week that he wanted to stay at Anfield.

"My preference is to stay at Liverpool and I am still hoping to do so. I do not want to leave," Pennant said.

"I am happy to compete for my place here and hope that I am given the chance to do so."

But now he has made the switch, Adams is looking forward to reuniting Pennant with a former Liverpool team-mate to good effect.

"I saw him play with Peter Crouch for Liverpool at Fulham last year and he was constantly getting past their left-back and getting crosses in for Crouchie," he added.

£10 million Thierry Henry is new Manchester City target

Manchester City have taken the first steps in an audacious attempt to bring Thierry Henry back to the Barclays Premier League at the end of the season. The former Arsenal forward is next on their list of superstar targets after the failed bid to sign ***á from AC Milan.

City have not approached directly Henry or his club, Barcelona, but, undeterred by their frustrating experience in Italy, they have identified the 31-year-old as a player who fits their need for an iconic signing to raise their commercial profile as well as their prospects on the pitch. Preliminary moves have been made to gauge his availability and whether he would want to return to English football as part of a broad-reaching “project” similar to that which they had hoped to sell to ***á.

The process is at an early stage but City, having determined that a deal cannot be done during this transfer window, are eager to continue with a feasibility study. They will then decide whether to meet Barcelona’s valuation, which is likely to be about £10 million, and match the player’s contract in Spain, which is thought to exceed £100,000 a week.

The January transfer window has been difficult for City, with a world-record £103 million bid to sign ***á ending in disappointment on Monday and other targets slipping through the net. These include not only Gianluigi Buffon, the Italy goalkeeper, who Juventus said was not for sale at any price, and Lassana Diarra, who moved from Portsmouth to Real Madrid, but also, it has emerged, Yaya Touré, the Barcelona midfield player, and the Valencia pair of David Silva and David Villa, two of the stars of Spain’s European Championship triumph last summer. City inquired with Valencia about the players before Christmas, only to be told that a combined price for them would be £135 million.

With their rivals seeking to exploit City’s status as the world’s richest club after the takeover by Sheikh Mansour, a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family, in September, the only additions this month have been relatively low-key, with Wayne Bridge, Nigel de Jong and Craig Bellamy joining from Chelsea, Hamburg and West Ham United respectively for a combined cost of more than £40 million.

City retain an interest in Shay Given, despite three unsuccessful bids for the Newcastle United goalkeeper, and Roque Santa Cruz, the Blackburn Rovers forward, but the resistance met in both cases has led to irritation at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Garry Cook, the City executive chairman, has confirmed that the bid to sign Santa Cruz remains on the table. “The last I heard was that Blackburn were looking to bring in another striker before they make a decision,” Cook said. “Sam Allardyce is working through his issues and I fully respect that. We have made it quite clear we would like to see Santa Cruz at this club and we will continue with those talks.”

Robinho, the Brazil forward, has apologised to Mark Hughes, the City manager, by telephone and accepted a fine of two weeks’ wages, about £320,000, after leaving the club’s training camp in Tenerife without permission on Monday. Robinho flew back to Brazil for a “family matter”, despite Hughes rejecting his request to do so.

The player has been unsettled by renewed interest in him from Chelsea, but he intends to stay at City for the immediate future and will resume training in Manchester on Monday.

Juventus Step Up Interest In Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt

Juventus have stepped up their interest in Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt as they try and find a replacement for Pavel Nedved.

The Czech star's agent Mino Raiola sent the warning shots to the Bianconeri on Wednesday by insisting his client would not accept a pay-as-you-play deal.

Juventus wasted no time in reacting to the words. Reports suggest that they have since moved to sign Kuyt, leading to suggestions that Nedved will retire at the end of term.

Il Corriere Dello Sport claims the Bianconeri are ready to launch a €30 million bid for the 28-year-old Dutch international. Juventus have already made contact with the player's agent, and it is believed negotiations will begin within the next week.

The Bianconeri cannot afford to waste any time in finding a replacement as Nedved's deal will expire in June. Juve will need to bring in substitute for the former Ballon d'Or winner sooner rather than later if they are to avoid any awkward crossover period.

Around 27mill pounds for Kuyt . Excellent deal but enough for Rafa to part from his toy boy?

Venables To Manchester City: Sign Puyol And Senna!

According to Terry Venables, Carles Puyol and Marcos Senna are the two players Man City should turn their attention towards...

He continued, "If they really want superstars, they should look at the Spanish internationals Puyol and Senna.

"He [Puyol] is a captain of, without doubt, the best team in Europe. Why would he leave, to go to a team that may not even be in the Premiership next season?"

Every player seems to on Man City's wanted list. I need to get back to training, I might just get signed as well.

This is the last week of this transfer window, wonder if we will end up seeing any big transfers.
