Lionel Messi: I Do Not Want To Follow Ronaldinho

Lionel Messi has reiterated his desire to stay with Barcelona for the rest of his career, but recognised that could be beyond his control in years to come as Ronaldinho's case proved.

The Argentinean was good friends with Brazilian but had to watch as his team-mate became disillusioned with life at Camp Nou after it became clear that club no longer wanted him.

While Messi is hopeful that will never happen to him, he knows that one or two bad seasons and the Blaugrana could well seek to cash in on him if a different board wants to.

"I hope to spend my entire career with Barcelona and hope that the club does not decide to sell me in later years, like they did with Ronaldinho," he told Catalunya's Canal 33.

"He was an important player that gave so much to Barça, but in the end everything went wrong for him.

"I arrived here when I was very young. I have spent my entire career here and hope I never leave and that Barcelona do not say that they do not want me any more.

"I know it is not impossible [that one day he could leave]. Look what happened with Ronnie. He was not happy last year and that is because he knew that he was not wanted."

Messi then stated that he would not be tempted to follow in other players’ footsteps and seek to move in order to earn more money no matter what the club.

"I will not go to Chelsea, or Inter or Madrid. I do not understand what is being said. Why do I have to clarify something that is not true? I think that people clearly know what I think," he added.

"At 13 I came here and the club gave everything to me and my family. I am really happy here. The truth is that I have all I could need and do not want for anything."

"I know that I never want to join another club."

I think Chelsea has under utilised Malouda since avant gram and scolari came into the picture...

Yeah he was good while playing for Lyon but ever since he's been at Chelsea he's never been as good. WOnder who will replace him? Kalou? Mikel?

He did start off quiet brillently... maybe he doesn't like the physical english game...

Mikel for Malouda? Mikel is a defensive player - he replaced Makelele.
Kalou is more of a striker than a winger.
I personally never liked Malouda's play really. He just runs all over and never makes anything meaningful IMO. He doesn't need to be replaced.

Spurs launch £15m bid for Keane
Tottenham have made a cash-only offer in the region of £15m to bring Liverpool striker Robbie Keane back to White Hart Lane, BBC Sport understands.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez said "no new offers" had been received for the 28-year-old after leaving him out of the squad for Sunday's win over Chelsea.

But BBC football reporter Ian Dennis said on Monday a move was likely.

"Keane is on the verge of going back to White Hart Lane," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Talks are taking place now."

Keane, who signed for the Anfield club for £20.3m in July, is set to have a medical with Spurs on Monday, which is scheduled to be the final day of the transfer window.

Republic of Ireland captain Keane left White Hart Lane for Anfield in the summer - a move he described as the fulfilment of a boyhood dream - but has struggled to establish himself on Merseyside, scoring five goals in 19 appearances so far.

Although Benitez hinted that Keane could remain at Anfield, the Spaniard stopped just short of a definitive answer on his future.

"I think Robbie Keane will be here when the transfer window shuts," he said on Sunday.

"I haven't seen any new offers. I don't know if the club have had any offers. He's here, he's our player. That's it."

He was dropped from the squad for the FA Cup draw with Everton but returned for the Premier League game with Wigan, albeit as a late substitute.

And he watched from the stands as Liverpool beat Chelsea with two late goals on Sunday.

"He was left out because we were considering all our good players and who we needed for this game," added Benitez, explaining Keane's non-involvement against Chelsea.

"It was only a decision based on this match and our requirements.

"I have spoken to Robbie, he was there in the dressing room beforehand, and we also spoke afterwards and we were just talking about the game.

"He was pleased because the team had won. He is part of my squad, I would expect him to be in my Champions League squad."

Last week, Benitez spoke of his unhappiness at the speculation surrounding Keane's future.

"They have to do things properly," said Benitez, referring to Tottenham's reported interest. "They have to make an official offer and we will say yes or no."

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp insisted he had done nothing wrong.

"I only answered the question: do you wish Robbie Keane was still at the club and I said yes," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I wish Michael Carrick was still at the club but he is not - it is hypothetical and it's not going to happen, unfortunately.

"I wish Dave Mackay was 22 and still playing here and Glenn Hoddle was 18 and still here. That's all I said."

During the summer Spurs were unhappy with Liverpool's conduct when they signed Keane, a situation that was only resolved when the Reds apologised and made a donation to a charity of Tottenham's choice.

Great. leaves us with Torres, Kuyt and Ngog up front....Great move Rafa

Hopefully we can steal Arshavin. He's going for the same price. Give Liverpool much needed width and pace. Unfortunately he lacks the oh so important defensive qualities :o
