Sun City in July?

Friends want to roadtrip to Sun City for a weekend. Is it a happening place in July? I don't want to rock up there when nobody is around :/

Saw Sun City for the first time in more than a decade when we went to go see Jeff Dunham a while ago. Won't bother again. Ever.

The casino is tiny, the prices are insane and nothing's as impressive as you remember it. The Superbowl itself is an awesome venue, but everything else is teh suck.

Rather take a drive through Pilanesberg National Park. It's a perfect time to go with the grass shorter cos of Winter. You can leave at 4 am, stop in Rustenburg for breakfast, then be at the gate by 7 am. Drive around and see animals the whole day, leave the park at 3 pm and be home before 6 pm.

We were planning on just taking supplies with us.. So price of foods isn't an issue. Won't be gambling..
But want to know if there will be people, I know it's not that great but all of us are a different varsities around the country, haven't seen each in a while etc. just going to be irresonsible in a safe environment, don't want to road trip to Cape Town etc.

But that would suck if it was only us, no other people, girls, empty valley of the waves :/
So are there people in Sun City in the middle of winter?

We did the Pilansberg jaunt as well - if you're used to Kruger, Pilansberg is also a major disappointment. Not worth the trip as far as I'm concerned. I don't suppose it helped matters much that we happened to catch a pride of lion feasting on the carcass of a rhino that was poached there the previous night, but it just left a sour taste.

What's this road trip meant to accomplish? Perhaps someone can come up with better suggestions?

Pilanesberg!

We did the same when we were 19. We were a bunch of mates that drove down. When we got there we set up our tent, went to the bar/swimming area and had a few drinks, afterwards went back to the camp site and made a fire. We ended up chatting with the other young people that were there for the weekend.

The great thing about Pilanesberg there will be lots of people camping especially Asians. When we were there there were busses full of Asian people coming through the gates. We also met a lot of Europeans at the camp site, but mostly people from Italy.

Sun City also less than 10km's so you can drive there for the day to check it out.

We mostly go to Sun City for the Vodacom Spring break during September/October

Just got back this evening as i type from a long weekend at Sun City. Expensive and freezing cold 6pm -> 8am. When the sun is out, which is most times it is fairly warm during this winter season. Still not warm enough to swim though. Valley of Waves is closed for refurb and maintenance. Vacation club not too bad for a small group or family - (walks, braaing, etc). Pilansburg is great but you need to spend time driving around (in first two hours saw Hippo, Giraffe, Elephant, Rhino, buck, ...).

There is the Crocodile Farm with feedings at 430pm, casinos, a Zip Slide (awesome fun), quad bikes, game drives, 4 mini-cinemas, 2 dance clubs (1 uinder 18's the other over-18s). There things to do, but bear in mind if you buy there it will cost you (i got a buddy coke for R25! ouch!)

I'm sure they have something going on July (like Vodacom Springbreak, don't know what it's called). Check the Sun International website. I know they usually do. Lot's of teens looking for a good time.

I like Sun City. I think it has a lot of stuff for all types/age groups/etc

Yip I'll never go there in June/July. way to cold. Own a timeshare unit. We got in October every year, when it's lekker hot. Love it. Kids really love it.

Durbs has awesome weather this time of year compared to joburg

Valley of Waves should open for July though. I'm quite sure.

It wasnt as full as in the Summer months, lot of Brazilian tourists and asian as well. But this was fathers day long weekend so i guess there were more people there than i expected. But i seriously cant imagine going to Valley of the Waves in July Spent a few days lying on the beach (mini-) at Cascades but too cold to even dip toe in 'heated' pool. Durbs sounds good this time of year. Ponto dOro anyone?
