Sunday Paper Advert

How about forming a broadband usergroup - like the SA Oracle User Group. It can be non-profit etc etc but at least it would be formalised - and as long as it does not become a weekly thing I think that there are enough commited people to take ownership of certain functions (tresury etc)

Just a thought....

"The Great Deregulation War has begun! For the good of our country & people Join the fight NOW! Let your voice be heard!"

I think what RPM is trying to say is that by having any donation scheme would make forums visitors who are not able or willing to donate feel less valued than those who do donate, this in turn would make visitors feel as if they are obliged to donate or just leave.

Whatever happens people must not become alienated - we need as many voices as possible.....

"The Great Deregulation War has begun!"

what to do what to do , this is slowely becomeing sad , and with nothing happeing anytime soon , the only thing i can see happeing is that telkom is gona give packages now , like 6 gigs for R500 or summing like that where u save 20 rand . and then they hope everybody will be happy .:(

here's a thought

why not contact Sentech and ask them if they would be willing to air a little myadsl ad since they are the broadcasters of television signals in this country.

they can mark it off as advertising for them and a competitive advantage in the coming broadband war in SA.

I don't agree.
You are just wasting your time and money.

Rather take out an advert explaining my post on wireless linking
to the backbone of the internet.

This way Telkom becomes irrelevant.

I am a very recent addition to the registered members on this site; I accidentally stumbled across this website in my frustrated search for ADSL alternatives.
The only reason this user base does not include 50% of ADSL users is purely because they just don’t know this site exists.
Advertisement of any kind that can grow the exposure of this site and user group is badly needed, not sure if advertising in Sunday papers is the best way to get this message across, we need articles in the typical magazines ADSL users would read, e.g. ITWEB and NAG to name a few.
With issues like the port prioritization that directly affect online gamers i am sure NAG would be interested in printing an article to inform gamers about the pitfalls of going the ADSL route.

I agree, If we target the Computer Magazines we will surely get a large number of new users, However how many people read the news Paper in comparison to NAG or other such magazines?

rpm

I believe the best way of going about this issue is two fold.

1). A simple ad in one or more national papers for the general
populace who are more than likely not very computer literate.

2). A more technical targeted ad in one or more technical/computer
magazines, where it can be assumed the readers a bit more savvy.

In either case, no specific mention should be made of Telkom or
Sentech, since the ad is not to push their services, unless of
course they as individual entities wish to contribute as well.

The ad should be targeted at informing people about this forum
and how the forum has been able to assist users with problems
they may have or where information is available. No rants must
be made, since a lot of people prefer to not get "involved". The
ad must also mention the fact that this forum is free/gratis to
"all" internet users.

If at first you can't download, try and then try again...

RPM -- thank you for setting the record straight about the myadsl site. I believe that myadsl.co.za has noble intentions and I and possibly many others respect that very much.

I personally feel that this site and it's support group have achieved some astonishing things to date.

No. This will be stupid. If we really expect Telkom to take us seriously, we have to fight it in the framework provided by the law. MyADSL's credibility will be severely compromised if it promoted a technology that is, for all intents and purposes, still illegal.

Why don't you start a web-site called MyWireless?

I was wondering by all these comments on the bad quality of ADSL if it is worth it to get ADSL, currently I have an ISDN LINK and very few problems with that. And what is with this 3 gb cap? why do they do it to the subscribers? I am new to this ADSL and am considering if I should invest into it or continue with isdn.

I'm in the same boat. In the end I decided against it, for now at least. My reasoning can be found here:

http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=855

Maybe it will help you decide. ADSL has some obvious benefits and if those benefits (24/7 access, fixed cost, superfast local browsing and e-mail, etc) outweigh the cons in your case, ADSL may just be for you.

back to the sunday paper thing....

how about an ad in a sortof "a message form me to you concept"
kinda like - "Hi, I am an ADSL user and I would like to let you know I am disappointed in you and your service"

very nonspecific.
or:
"Hi, I am an ADSL user - I have no voice because those that need to hear me do not listen"

make the ad about ADSL users, not the service provider kinda thing.

hehe thats bloody true thank goodness the cap dont effect this site no more , but i am afraid to say that most of our cries for help have fallen on deaf ears , i dont think telkom is to concernd what 10 000 users gota say , considering they servcing millions , we are nothing to them just a bug thats trying to bite , but they can just knock us down again and again now if there was like 100 000 of us there would be difffrent matter at hand , untill then i think itll be useless

Not really, think about all those people who have avoided going the ADSL route because of the info contained on this forum, like me. I would have gone ADSL 3 months ago but a friend told me not to and referred me to this site. There might be 10000 of you who have taken the plunge and been disappointed, but there are probably another 50000 like me who are just as peeved with the crap service and prices. I reckon the best thing ADSL users can do is to publicise this forum as much as possible and avoid any more people from signing up. That will get Telkom's attention. Do it any way you want , full page ad, letters to papers, pamphlets whatever, just do something. Im not on ADSL but I want it, and until the attitude on this forum changes about adsl, im never gonna get it. So, yes, Im with you all the way, even as a dialup user.

well said

the ADSL users on this site are true martyrs. they helped me by getting ADSL and pointing out its flaws.

dial-up for me too, till i get my wireless connection [:D]
