Sunsetting 2G and 3G creates unnecessary panic

Globally 2G and 3G is falling by the wayside. Products are out there that support 4G/LTE by default.
Some countries have already turned off 2G/3G

Unfortunately poor old South Africa has millions of card machines and other devices that won't be replaced because of cheapskatery and greed. So instead they will lobby for the older services to be kept going.

This is going to end up, as badly as the digital TV migration.

Our Complex has already upgraded our Cell to Gate units, to comply. While in the interest of maximum profits, industry, is draging their feet.
 
I changed the 3G access control for a 4G unit in February this year, as the Centurion 3G one expires in October and the mobile phone program was also upgraded
There are 155 numbers in the database for users who access the doors
22 of them complained after the unit was changed that a) they were unable to load the new program (the upgrade operates 3G and 4G), and b) 19 of them said their (usually a Huawei) phone would not load the program,
After a series of meetings. it was found they had not read the instructions
One was a lawyer who insisted I visit his flat and sort it out. When I told him there was a R500 fee. he changed his mind

Had no such issues, fortunately.

Well most countries which phased it out also kept at least one network to roam on instead of an all or nothing. They also released the high demand spectrum ages ago already while Icasa only now managed to release the normal spectrum they were holding on to. They should rather stop dragging their feet and do what industry has asked them to do.

We also had issues initially with a 4G unit. Accepts calls and the centurion app.
