Hi guys,
2 things I nee help with please.
How long after an installation can you add another battery or 2? I heard that its 18 months or after that you cant add another one?
What is a decent price for the Sunsync batteries, 10kw as thats the one I have and I assume you cant add another make ?

Thanks

You can add different makes (same chem though, lfp stick with lfp, nmc stick with nmc) if you willing to lose comms and use just voltage settings which im perfectly happy to do.

I've never heard of any sort of time limit on adding batteries. My installer strongly recommended same size and brand be added however, saying that they play better together - how true that is I'm not sure.

Sunsynk no longer has it own branded batteries, meaning you will have to buy old stock, if you can find it, or go with Eenovance which is the brand that the Sunsynk batteries were based off.

Any battery will do, as long as the chemistry is the same and the nominal voltage (or cell count) is the same.

If you want battery to inverter communications to work then you need to stick to same make, brand, model etc and make sure that BMS is still compatible (firmware versions etc).

There’s a new device called an iBMS that allows you to connect any battery to any inverter so you can match different brands together. I’ll try find the link later after my ****.

Yea i think this notion of not mixing old and new

Is a carry over from lead acid beliefs

Yes if one battery has degraded more than the others it will just carry less of the load as the newer batteries will have more potential and supply slightly more

I have 2 different age betteries and 2 different capacities

And they all reach the bottom not to far apart

It just balances the load by itslelf

I do think suplliers don't mind spreading myths if it helps the bank balance

are Eenovance any good? Will they work with the Sunsync battery I already have?

As long as the battery is same nominal voltage and chemistry

It can be paralled in no coms mode if the communication protocol does not match existing

Its bms still manages it

For monitor software some figures may be out of wack

ie battery load does not match actual load as no coms battery load is excluded

Inverter load still catches it

I run 4 batteries like this now
2 with coms 2 without

The SOC is still usable as they balance themselves since parralel

Does it even matter with LA? You can mix different capacities when new. Why can’t it be done with new and old?

In parallel that is
