Sunsynk + battery comms issue

Hi all

First time poster and solar power user here.

I have recently had a sunsynk 8kw inverter installed with 18 455w panels and a solar md battery (7.4kwh). From all the research I've done, it appears that the battery does not have comms with the inverter so it is currently discharging, charging, measuring SoC etc based on voltages (despite being connected via canbus). Does anyone have any experience with this? The generally accepted solution is to use the solar md logger but based on other threads, it isn't the most reliable ( and it's just under R5k)

The other problem I'm facing is the time of use settings are based on voltage as opposed to % which is more complex than i would have preferred.

Will appreciate any insight
Thanks

What does your LiBMS screen look like? if it looks anything other than this, then there is no comms between inverter and battery.

The only way for the inverter to work with this battery is using AGM voltage settings. You will need to get these from your SolarMD supplier, for your specific battery. Unfortunately this arrangement is sub-optimal, because the accuracy of the voltages of the cells are dependent on your battery's cable lengths and thicknesses. The inverter also cannot receive instruction from the storage regarding charge limits, or forced charges.

When you change to AGM in the Batt screen, you will also be able to select the use of either % or voltage.

Next time you buy, remember to select a battery that supports proper communications with the inverter.

Thanks gents. @RonSwanson you are correct, current screen is a blank. Have learnt my lesson with these, was priced as a package deal but I've learnt that lesson now

Wait what? Really. Damn. I guess they want you to buy their logger

I would be interested to know if anyone that has the solar md logger has enabled it to communicate with the inverter and still use Solarman - as opposed to being compelled to use their platform. It is a shame as i would really love to support a local business

This is my setup

Sunsynk inverter plus data logger
Solarman app

Everything talking to each other

Buying the logger is no guarantee that it will work with the Sunsynk CAN implementation, the OP needs to get that info (preferably in writing) from the supplier.

Solarman uses the serial port of the inverter (as does the new Sunsynk logger), so the CAN bus will still be free.

Yup. Sunsynk inverter. SolarMD battery and Solarman app user here. All working great together. Also have the SolarMD logger if that makes a difference.

I installed solarassistant yesterday. Very cool. Proper real time as opposed to the 10min real time from solarman
