Sunsynk + Home Assistant

Oh I see this Solarman Dongle is a rather expensive add on.

Unless they give that away for free Solar Assistant seems like a far better and more economical option.
Solarman is bundled with the Sunsynk/Deye. New Sunsynk might come with their own logger now, but I could be wrong on this.

I see it listed everywhere as a separate item though.

But I’ll be sure to ask the question.

With a 10-15min delay though it will be useless.

AFAIK this can be reduced to about 1min. @AchmatK can verify, he's the resident expert.

Sunsynk dongle should be real time soon.

I can vouch for solar assistant on a PI. But i dont use HA at all.

Solar assistant has been receiving regular updates

The delay is why i grabbed solar assistant. Its realtime

It used to be a separate Solarman logger.

New Sunsynks should include the sunsynk logger.

So verify with sellers if included or not.

Mine was included - purchased in Jan. Be aware that the 8kva has noisier fans than the 5kva. Consider 2x5kva cost as opposed to 1x8kva. If 1x8 is favourable then for sure it'll be good size wise for an average household.

Going in the garage where my server rack is equally noisy and inaudible for the rest of the house so not a problem really.

But thanks for the heads up.

Also, 2x5kva gives you redundancy. Same with battery. If you're going for e.g. Freedomwon 10/8 maybe consider 2x eTowers instead for redundancy

Will likely end up being a FreedomWon 20.

Redundancy doesn’t quite make sense to me as I feel I won’t be able to run my house on half anyway, but definitely something to discuss.

Main reason I don’t want Victron is because I don’t want two of everything, so a Sunsynk 8kw + FreedomWon 20 seems the most compact and less complicated.

Is the new logger realtime?
Yep but a forumite was not impressed with it overall.

Below from powerforum

With our data logger you will have the ability to real-time monitor, change parameter settings, force out software updates and more, from anywhere in the world provided that you have an internet connection.

Victron overpriced as well.

The issue with buying a big battery upfront is that should you just need 5 kWh more, you'll need to add another 20 kWh which can get expensive.

Starting off with 5, or even 10, will give you more control over future upgrades, in a more cost efficient way...

That’s exactly why I’m going 20kw because I’m effectively negating any future upgrades and overcompensating from the start so I can run rampant and use more power than I ever did previously.

A 10 won’t do as I’ll basically kill it every night in winter with wall panel heaters alone.

Exactly why the Tesla Powerwall didn’t make sense at the capacity because one is just barely enough and two would be way too much in both capacity and price.

The only reason I would have considered a 10 is if money wasn’t forthcoming and I wanted to compromise just to get the rest done so long.

Was thinking more like 2x10s or 4x5s to give you the 20.

That way should you need to add on, it's far more efficient both power and cost wise. None of us know what our future usage will look like, especially once you've been set free...

Don’t see any reason why I couldn’t add a 10 to the 20 later down the line if I needed to?

Definitely not going 4x5 but also don’t see any reason why 2x10 would make more sense when I know I need 20.

Different story if I wanted to start on 10 and upgrade with another 10 later.

I can predict my usage fairly well for night time use well into the future. All I could see changing would be more panels for day time use.

Also, it’s not more efficient cost wise. More units always cost more money. 2x10 is a couple of grand more expensive than 1x20.

20 = R108,869
2x10 = R114,646
4x5 = R130,268

That’s a whole lot of money that could rather go into more panels.

What may be an option is if the budget doesn’t stretch to 20 to go for the 15.
