Sunsynk + Home Assistant

Don’t see any reason why I couldn’t add a 10 to the 20 later down the line if I needed to?

Definitely not going 4x5 but also don’t see any reason why 2x10 would make more sense when I know I need 20.

Different story if I wanted to start on 10 and upgrade with another 10 later.

I can predict my usage fairly well for night time use well into the future. All I could see changing would be more panels for day time use.

Also, it’s not more efficient cost wise. More units always cost more money. 2x10 is a couple of grand more expensive than 1x20.

20 = R108,869
2x10 = R114,646
4x5 = R130,268

That’s a whole lot of money that could rather go into more panels.

What may be an option is if the budget doesn’t stretch to 20 to go for the 15.
I know with Pylons one can mix and match different sizes. How does this work for the other brands?

Can’t comment on other but I do believe with the FreedomWon it’s not a problem.

Could be wrong.

Also, speccing too small also means much higher DoD and therefore much lower lifespan potentially, hence why I’d prefer to go larger if possible.

It's brand dependent, double check the manual for compatible sizes should you need to upgrade.

Going more modular is a higher upfront cost. But if (for eg.) you only need 10 more in future, it's cheaper to add 1 10 than 1 20, as a result of size incompatibility...

Will definitely be confirming.

A 15 might also be the better option size wise because then I have a nicer plan of where to fit it but need to measure.

Solar Assistant is rock solid, also have solarman and hardly ever look at it. Works very well and the dev are constatntly adding releases with a decent focus on Home assistant. Would get it again.

I have HA and it connects to the Solarman logger locally. There is also an integration for the API.
Only reason I would consider getting Solar Assistant is the long refresh time on the Solarman.

Out of interest how long is the cable connecting to your HA instance? Just wondering if I’ll run into trouble with cable length.

Wonder if it would work with the newer logger thing that seems to ship with them now.

Do you have some screenshots of what it pulls into HA?
This is for the Solarman logger.
I think there is a similar integration for the Sunsynk logger

This is out of the Home Assistant phone app

I am still struggling with the automation on some of these

Does anyone sell the RS485 cable in a longer length? And for that matter any walk in store in Cape Town I could get one?

And failing that could I just put an RJ45 extender on it and run a normal Ethernet cable to the Sunsynk?

Brain says the pin outs would be just fine, just wondering if cable length might be an issue.

Just to be clear that’s the older logger, that’s been replaced by the Sunsynk one?

So this wouldn’t work with the new system.

Yes, I think the Solarman logger is older and the Sunsynk logger is new.
I would guess that it won't work

Cable length on RS485 will not be an issue. At work we run > 100m RS485 cables. We use proper comms cable though.
