Just need some advice....

I have Wireless Internet (10mb advanced...goes to 20mb from 18:00-06:00 and 18:00 friday till 06:00 monday).
Provider currently has problems and it's becoming my problem and want to cancel.

Thinking of either going 200gb day/ 200gb night from supersonic or 220gb day/ 220gb night from telkom.

Now the questions............
Is it a good idea to move away (paying R1200 per month and currently getting 7mb of my 20mb)?
Which of those 2 is better?(current ping is between 6ms and 10ms ping)

I'm staying in Arcon Park,Vereeniging and also would like to know if anyone is from this area that can show me speedtest
results from these 2 ISP's please.

Doing gaming (Apex,CSgo,Fortnite),Netflix and general downloading from Jack Sparrow land....

I would go with Supersonic. Telkom's network is generally worse, especially when there's a lot of loadshedding, but you can try them out with a prepaid sim.

Isn't there other wireless providers in the area? The data caps is going to be a pain...

There is one other but hell it is expensive.

So if I do decide to go LTE route....which is best....Supersonic,Axxess or Afrihost?

And out of the three is there anyone staying in Arconpark Vereeniging Area that can show me some speedtests please as I dont want to dive into an ISP and get dissapointing speeds...

So I tested Telkom and Mtn speeds cause I have dual sim phone (p20 lite) but barely getting 10mb download speed...is it because im testing on my phone and not on 4g router?

Thought speeds would be better after the cable repairs...

10 mbps is decent, tho nothing to get excited about. As long as it is stable.

If fiber is available, go for it. ADSL, if you can get it, and are close to the exchange is second best.

Then fixed LTE-A.

Lastly 3G/LTE this is the most costly of them all.

Speed is not the be all and end all, a stable connection is what it is about.

Your phone will give you similar speeds to a mifi router/dongle. A B618 Huawei router has the potential to easily double the speed obtainable on a mifi router/dongle.

The lastly a great deal depends on what your tower can or cannot give you.

Unfortunately there are numerous variables the affect your experience.

Okay so I plugged my phone into PC and used USB tethering and did a speedtest on MTN network. I'm not even going to post the Telkom speedtests as they are utter crap.

Attached as you can see is the results for MTN speedtests.

Now my questions are....

1. Will I achieve better speeds when connected to a decent LTE modem?

2. Which modem would you suggest?

3. Which provider is best...Supersonic, Axxess or Afrihost?

Please help a brother out as I want to cancel my contract with my ISP.

I recommend a B618 hands down the best out there unless you can get a H112 but that is a 5G router and not on the MTN approved list unfortunately

The B618 will do 4G+ on Telkom and MTN and that is something you might just have needed to boost your speed.

Want to give Afrihost a test run? Why not just get the Free 1GB mobile data on their APN. 1GB will give you a good number of tests. Using the mymtn apn allows you unlimited free speedtests on speedtest.co.za

Axxess and Afrihost is the exact same network so the Question really is whether you choose Afrihost/Axxess or Supersonic. Supersonic directly sells MTN mobile data through the MTn Business network while Afrihost/Axxess uses their own network. You are going to need to test both to see which is better. The Afrihost data rolls over where Supersonic it does not so maybe that is something to take into consideration.

I'm not familiar with the P20 Lite LTE radio so can't say for sure but did you see 4G+ on your phone when doing the speedtest on MTN or Telkom? If not that is just normal LTE and you have a good chance of getting better speeds on 4G+ with a proper router.

Huawei B525, Huawei B618s-65d, H112-370 for Telkom and
Huawei B525, Huawei B618-65d or Huawei B618s-22d for MTN Fixed LTE.

@cavedog Thank you for the informative reply....the router afrihost has for the 100+100gb bundle is the ZTE MF286C router...

What is your take on it?

Not a fan because bandtools don't work on it but it's a decent spec router. Not sure how well it performs. Never used it before.

I don't know if your original question is still relevant, but I have both Prepaid Telkom LTE and Supersonic Fibre (Using LTE as a backup). Most evenings around 9Pm I switch to the LTE because the Supersonic speed falls through the floor.... I'm sure they are applying some kind of shaping or throttling because during this time Showmax / Netflix works ok but Twitter or Facebook struggle to load pictures.... Ping goes through the roof etc....

Just my personal experience....

Telkom LTE via a service provider of course like Webafrica or Afrihost they handle queries better and from my experience with Telkom LTE they are more consistent with speeds. Now Supersonic where do I start they have non existent customer support their billing is horrendous now this was experience from last year maybe they have changed ? But in my case Telkom LTE works be careful of Rain their LTE network is unreliable. Just my 2c.

I don't know either of them to be honest. I'm a B525, B618 and H112 kinda guy. Not too familiar with the rest as I have never used them before.

Supersonic actually got worse, believe it or not
