I know speed tests belong in the relevant section etc etc. but i think mine deserves a special place (here)

1stly certain ports have a high priority, http email and ftp ports if im correct.
Yesterday 01-10-2003 i had a customer who needed a printer driver.
"Thats easy" i said "we'll just download it." I then told him about my adsl line (how fast it is bla bla bla etc.) Got onto www.hp.com and started the download from their ftp. 334bytes per second (0.334k/s). There comment "you must be an idiot to spend R1000.00 per month on that." Im starting to think they right

I dunno why im still sticking with them. I probably have the illusion that they gonna improve their service. Your customer is 100% correct, we are idiots paying them so much money for a dreadful service!

Funny thing about FTP is that most clients enable Passive FTP by default, meaning your transfer takes place on a "non standard" port, usually in the 1000+ range. With Passive FTP port 23 is reserved for browsing the FTP server if I am not mistaken.
