Lost and Confused...
Hi guys

I'm looking to train to get into a bit better shape. No, it's not a new years resolution lol.

Bit of background, I'm slim - 47kg, not anorexic though. I'm looking to have a bit of bulk, shape, but not crazy stuff.

A lot of people have advised me to look at supplements, what advice do you guys have? What works, what to look for, help me out lol.

TIA!

Start off with a protein supplement with plenty of calories and high carbohydrates. They usually have "anabolic" or "grow" as part of the name Just take in enough extra calories that you start to put on weight every week. The rest is all down to your training. As for brands, most high calorie proteins taste good. I am sure there will be some recommendations coming soon. Good luck.

How tall are you and how much do you want to weigh?

Thank you, that's a good start. I'm 1.65, short, not sure what's my target weight yet.

Only take supplements as a supplement not as a meal replacement, they will do NOTHING except make you fat if you don't train hard...

Use pure whey protein immediately after workout, stay away from anything else it's full of nonsense... Whey is easily digestible and gets in to help the muscles recover quicker.

After a month or so start taking some casein about an hour before bed, will keep you full over night so less chance of muscle mass being used as fuel overnight.

Evox or Advanced Nutrition(AN) are the best, stay as far away from USN as physically possible

To stay away from USN is a matter of opinion. I've been using it and I'm happy with my results.

My "stack"
Protein (Mass builder or Whey, on and off)
Creatine
BCAA's
Though the latter two are sometimes stacked with the Mass-builder proteins..

Then for meals get also some proteins (fish, chicken, steak) and lots of veggies.

Mmmm

Shakes are you female ? Coz you really don't weigh much :P

Listen first thing you need to do is really look at diet. Don't think of supplements as a solution.

What is your age and how often do you want to work out a week ?

There are some calculators that can help give you an idea of what calories you should be consuming daily to gain healthy weight.

You do sound really underweight. I am 1.65 m and my ideal / goal weight is 62kg's.

Rather speak to one of the USN consultants in the pharmacies, they are also on facebook, you can ask them.

The ideal weight of someone that is 1.65m is usually ~65KG if you are mail, if you are female the calculation is very different. You may not be anorexic but do sound like you are underweight.

At 65KG you won't look bulky, but with exercise muscular and just good.
A female at that length will probably need to be closer to 50KG at most, in which case you need to do a body re-composition, ie. lose some fat gain some more muscle.

While supplements certainly do help, you will need to up your food intake, which is the best way to gain weight if you eat right. Just eating more is a bad idea, and just using supplements only is probably going to work and only add a huge monthly cost to your budget.

You do need a high protein diet. High amount of carbs will only be good if you do bodybuilding exercises with it, or some sort of exercise that use up carbs for energy, so that the protein can be used for muscle building instead of energy.

That is my advice at least.

Just remember you cant out train a bad diet. maybe a nutritionist is also a good option to check out.

I've been on Cipla Nutrition for a while and its really really good. Small range so they not just competing for shelf space they actually putting together good quality products.
