Will finally have fibre in next two weeks and about to sign up with MF. What equipment do they supply, is it any good? Is there such a thing as a bad fibre modem?

Not sure about the case of Metrofibre, however you are generally supplied with an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that will be installed by technicians - this remains property of the Fibre Network Operator (FNO), eg Metro, Openserve, Vuma, etc. You generally cannot swap out ONT's for anything else as it's network specific. The ONT is essentially the 'modem'.

Then you get your router that is often supplied by your ISP - eg Afrihost, Cool Ideas, Mweb, etc, but you usually can also buy and configure one yourself. Here you can have your selection of good and bad routers.

Metrofibre ISP doesn't give a router. They use the ONT for both layer 2 and 3.
Not sure if that will hold fast for the new speeds, i have been told I will eb getting a New Wifi 6 router when they finally get round to upgrading me.
