Just received this in the mail.
Hi
This is an urgent appeal - a chance for you to act in favour of renewable energy - which couldn't wait for our next newsletter.
We recently blogged about a private members bill being put before parliament soon, which if successful, will provide for the establishment of a feed-in tariff in South Africa. You can read more about this on our post over here. South Africa desperately needs an equitable feed-in tariff to kickstart more investment in renewable energy.
We’ve learnt that the bill will be discussed in parliament on 18 November at 12h30 and it would be great if members of the public could show support for the bill. A group of parliamentarians from various political parties have formed themselves into a Renewable Energy lobby group called e-REACT and their first initiative is to present the Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff (REFIT) bill.
If you can't attend the discussion in parliament, please consider sending an email of support to one of the following:
Dr Ruth Rabinowitz (IFP) [email protected]
Gareth Morgan (DA) [email protected]
Lance Greyling (ID) [email protected]
Judy Chalmers (ANC) [email protected]
Here is a sample letter to make it easy. If you’re going to email them please do it asap, as they need the letters of support by cob tomorrow (12th Nov)
Dear (name above)
I'm writing in support of the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff private members bill (REFIT).
This initiative would make it viable for many South Africans to invest in renewable energy. In other countries like Germany and the US this has resulted in a vibrant renewable energy sector which has created many new jobs and driven the costs of technology down.
Adopting a renewable energy feed-in tariff would reduce the burden on Eskom’s generation capacity, help reduce our heavy carbon footprint and reduce pollution in general.

Here’s to supporting renewable energy in SA.
