Some of you may have read about the *new* Surf AnyTime package from T31K0M. I had a look just for a laugh – I mean, I knew going in that T31K0M are not renowned for offering anything in the customer’s favor... I had no idea it was this ridiculous…

Normal dial up call costs (taken from the T31K0M site – link below):
http://www.telkom.co.za/portal/page...ricing/content/custtomer_to_automatic_exh.jsp

0.00585 per second = R0,35 per minute

T31k0m Surf AnyTime costs (link below):
http://www.telkom.co.za/portal/page...portal&_schema=PORTAL&prod=Telkom SurfAnyTime

R216 for 600 minutes = R0,36 per minute!

WOW – so I pay R216 upfront every month to be billed 1c per minute MORE than standard time? HUH? And no callmore time for me anymore? Someone help me here – what am I doing wrong? April fool, right T31K0M?

Yes, the 0.00585 c per second is EXCL VAT and the R216 is INCL VAT, so SurfMore600 gives you an effective 14% discount.. :)

While it may appear to some to be a fair product offering from Telkom, Telkom probably bargains on making a profit when all of the free minutes are not used in a month and (as ALWAYS with Telkom) not carried over.

I think the absolute worst product ever from Telkom is XtraTime, and the "best" probably Infinitcall. If only it weren't for those darn disconnects...

Disconnects?

As much as I would like to think it is Telkom's fault and all for line disconnects as I used to, I'm forced to disagree. I used to have constant disconnects, couldn't stay on for longer then six hours, but soon as I got my new pc and had Telkom fix the line (was hit by lightning around the same time), I HARDLY ever get disconnected without my consent. And by hardly, I mean two or three times a month at most. Can easily stay on for 2 days 10 hours now.. (more or less the most I can do without going out of CallMore  )

I still think infinitcall would be a very "good?" option for minimal users to be connected whenever they feel like weekends etc. if they didnt have to pay the extra R50(?) a month for the service to be active.

Imagine R70 line rental a month and connecting 4 weekends, that is enough for ALOT of people to do what they want a month and only R100 a month. Also to make it effective, Telkom should atleast include 56k isp account in every line rental.

What about the fact

that all the time you are online, you are paying standard rates - so where's the 14% saving at the end of the day. So if you use it during office hours, you need to fork out over R200 per month just to get a 14% saving... and then only if you use up all your time - what happens after you use up all your time - are you charged 14% more, or do you then get the benefit of callmore time? What a load of...
