I have not seen this posted, and a search turned up nothing, but there has been a bit of an uproar going on on Twitter about a surf rage incident on the West Coast.

One surfer apparently tried to drown another. I have surfed for years and there have been many scuffles but they usually take place on the beach. The story goes that this chap appears to be a serial offender.

Some photos have now surfaced and I am very reluctant to comment further...

Holy crap.... surfers are suppose to be so chilled.

I was at Blouberg this weekend and there were literally hundreds of kitesurfers, It was insane... with so many people in the water its a matter of time before one dude gets in the way of another dude and wires get crossed.

Apparently the accused (bald coloured guy) has threatened other surfers families and the likes in the past. Nobody seems 100% sure who to blame, but judging but his previous antics, I imagine he had words with one surfer, who decided to have words back and this guy didnt take any of it. Headlocked the guy and kept dunking him underwater.

The bald dude said he would kill the guys whole family and disappeared out of the water etc. Lets see if he comes forward with his version. I hope charges are laid however and this guy gets charged. Headlocking somebody in the water and dunking him is tantamount to attempted murder imo.. dont need scum like that in our waters.

That said, ive never been in or seen such a confrontation in all my years surfing... times are changing.. like all the new golfers and mountainbikers who have absolutely no idea about etiquette. Annoying...

I've seen the odd swear word and water splashing. Only once have I been involved in a physical confrontation and, unsurprisingly, it was a professional SA surfer who I always thought was a bit of a twat. He felt all the waves were his. But even then it never took place in the water but after I left the surf.

Yeah, I'd imagine there was some unwritten rule about not doing that kind of stuff in the water. Not that I'd have a clue, either way.

Yep, mostly its the new guys who dont understand lines and the right of way etc depending on starting position. This can often lead to confrontations...

I've had the urge to wrap my 8mm leash around a few peoples neck on occasion :D

There's usually one or two pricks that think they own the place and then you get the town clowns...

Surfers do complain a lot. Even when you are in a line up. You must see them cry when a big set comes in a waveskier paddles behind them to get on the inside of the wave (they wont make the set because they sit where the normal waves comes in and cant paddle fast). Even though they wont be able to ride the wave... man do they cry.

Most surfers are chilled cool okes, but you do get some elitists that really need to be ridden over.

A lot of surfers also dont seem to understand how physics work. I know how physics works thats why when I see a longboarder drop his board I get the fk out the way! (That board is big and the leash is long). Surfers need to know the same physics applies with a waveski.... without the leash.

Yes you do. Away from us land dwellers. He is your problem not ours :p

The obvious rule which only real noobs or A-holes break is dropping in on other guys... the less obvious rules are don't inside paddle guys, if you've had a wave sit on the outside of the guys who are already in position and if you habitually miss a wave or wipeout then move off the peak.

Ah yes, shame, those North Coast boys who are jealous of the consistent surf town gets ;)

Yes, like those a-hole waveskiers...

Point. Proven :D

Not sure how clued up you are on the water, but surfers paddle as well :) Just not when they ride a wave, but pretty much the rest of the time :)
