I'm trying to fix one of my Raspberry Pis, where when I put the SD card too skew, and pressed a bit too hard, it damaged this surface mounted socket. The socket has a plastic base through which the SD card contacts solder onto the top side of the board. This is a very simple repair - clamp and solder, then solder the external metal shield over the open contacts.
Failing a proper repair, I shall solder a ribbon cable to the SM contacts, and wire an off-board socket to the motherboard. I don't understand why so many fellow electronics enthusiasts find either form of repair infeasible enough to warrant wasting a whole Pi 2 to buy a new Pi just so it has an SD socket.
No Raspberry associated agents will even consider repair, and none (RS maybe, but I can't describe the part to RS online well enough). Does anyone know if my naming for the part (the subject of this topic) is correct, and where could I get these things in the greater Randburg area. Preferably during my 1 hour lunch break from Blackheath, next door to McDonalds.
