Crappy of them not to - is it the same for windows phone?

Yup but WP has 3rd party apps that do basically the same thing. I think without the ads and with background playback support.

I wouldn't buy from Orange, their service has tanked.
I ordered mine from Orange last week. Had great service from them, even had the JHB office call me to confirm when it would be delivered. Took 2 days to get to SA, and then a week to clear customs (are we surprised). But other than that had nothing but a great experience. And honestly the prices are a lot more reasonable for these than Takealot (even if we ignore the 6 month warranty).
I ordered the i7, 8gb, 256gb model (http://store.orange.com/za/tablets/...intel-i7-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-win-81-pro-265354/), which takealot has for R25999 (http://www.takealot.com/microsoft-surface-pro-3-i7-256gb-12-win-pro-8/PLID32852374), and which thetablet.co.za has for R29595 (http://thetablet.co.za/4279-surface-pro-3-12-i7-256gb-wi-fi-win-pro-8.html). The price difference as you can see is not small. They're almost in different leagues.
Even if Orange's service was slightly worse than takealot (which is definitely wasn't), you could easily justify having to deal with it due to the price difference. But as I said, in my experience though the service has been fantastic though. And well the SP3 is just completely fantastic.
