Looking at getting the Surface Pro 3 - i5, 256SSD, 8GB RAM model with the black type cover

Anyone here have a Surface pro 3? If so what are your Pro's and Con's with the device?

Is it really a laptop replacement?

I'm currently using a Macbook Air 2013 (which im planning to sell) but use Windows on it most of the time as I can't get used to Mac OS.

Getting it at $1529.09 Aus dollars which includes the keyboard and I will get 10% back from tax.

Family in Aus will be buying it for me and we will be meeting them in Thailand in Dec so there's no shipping charges etc

Thanks:D

Cons: Too stupidly expensive for anyone to own one and tell you how it works.

I played with one of these a while back that belongs to one of our MS resources...
Yes, it is stupid expensive... I will buy one in a heartbeat. It is worth every penny.

Yeah thanks, I've watched that review before and most others on YouTube.

Anyone in Sa sells it at a decent price? Obviously grey stock

anyone else with any info before I order?

Two opinions that would be useful for yourself, coming from a Mac and asking the question of "is it a laptop replacement?"

Paul Thurrot - http://winsupersite.com/mobile-devices/surface-pro-3-preview

Anand Shimpi - http://www.anandtech.com/show/8077/microsoft-surface-pro-3-review

Paul's perspective is of a Windows guy who has used Macbooks before because of their hardware standards, Anand's perspective is from a OS X convert who continues to watch what Microsoft does with their hardware, but remains an Apple guy (he even works for them on product development now).

Generally speaking, if Anand ever gives anything a thumbs up, it's worth whatever you're paying for it. Also, Takealot now stocks Surface Pro 3, so you might want to compare their prices before you move on anything.

I received my i5 128GB 4GB ram SP3 lat week - its an excellent piece of kit. I got it off ebay for $1100 including shipping and taxes. It took less than a week to arrive - ordered on Friday night and arrived on Thursday morning. Its lower than the spec I wanted but I cant really justify the cost.

I bought the keyboard from kalahari for R2200 so all in I paid about R14500. still damn expensive but i sold my similar spec laptop that it is replacing for a good price.

so far I have tested photoshop cc and vmware with windows 7 on it and it runs beautifully

I just checked and the same setup from thetablet.co.za would cost R21,500.00

My daughter is flying form the USA next week. She's bringing an SP3 for a niece (her brother has one already).

So tempted to load her up with another one ... but I have an SP2 with Dock, and it's really fine.

Gorgeous kit.

How is it in tablet mode?
Contemplating pulling the trigger on one of these...
