Following this thread where I explained how MTN double billed me twice for ad-hoc data bundles, I am now experiencing the opposite.... It seems that I am using the internet for free.

Usually I go to the MTN active website, go to statements, then Unbilled invoices, then PSD calls. Here, normally, I get a breakdown that displays my data usage. Hoverver it seems that I am using 0Bytes every day at a cost of R0.

This is strange as I have an HTC Desire and use Gmail, Google Reader, and even Facebook daily.

So I phoned 1555 and they put me through to account inquiries who confirmed that my usage is zero. When pressed on the issue she came up with data usage ranging from 20c to R1.60 per day (which I think is to low), and she said that it is deducted directly from my 'Rand value' on my anytime 350 contract. I have three problems assuming that she has given me the correct information.

1) I can not see my data usage anywhere(MTN active or 1555), so there must be a problem with MTN active website or their billing system.
2) I am scared of the surprise when they find their problem and suddenly make a correction. It could be a big bill because I don't know what I am using at the moment.
3) She says that they are subtracting it automatically from my Rand Balance on my account, but again I can't see how much they have subtracted.

Is it only me or are many of you haveing the same problems?

My MTN phone no longer has the luxury of data access, apart from WiFi at home. Expect to be billed 3x your usage in 6 months' time...

Forever fear when MTN billing is near!

I had a similar issue for many years (about 3). Consistently used hundreds of MB's a month without ever getting billed. Also thought it would catch up. Never did. They eventually stoped giving the MB's for free, but never billed me for the historic usage.

Probably stopped due to system upgrades or corrections or whatever.

Interesting that, during this time, MTN Active never tallied with either what the call centre or the statement showed.

They are goverment-grade tw*ts.

A year or so ago I had a huge dispute with MTN regarding data billing, a dispute I eventually had to drive out to their Constantia Park offices and almost threaten people to get resolved. What I'll never forget is the fact that, not once, did the balances given by MTN(in)Active, USSD enquiries and their call centre agents correspond.

I've never had to deal with a company where the left hand didn't know what the right was doing in such a literal sense. No two people in the same department would give you the same answer to a question. Once it became an interdepartmental matter the wheels fell off something proper!

This happend to me to me about a year ago when Virgin Mobile didn't charge me for my data usage on their EDGE connection. I downloaded about 12GB every month until my contract ended in September. I didn't pay one cent and had about R900 of airtime when if finally got charged 60c per MB.

Work on a large scale Eskom project, and you'll get to experience true frustration. I always thought they were semi-capable of managing themselves - WHAT A FU***NG JOKE!

PS: OT, I know. My apologies - I had to vent. Their site security wound me up good an proper today (again).

what are the numbers to check data usage (besides 1555)
