So my girlfriend bought me a Surround Sound set for my birthday.

It is the Yamaha RX-V465 Amplifier and a set of Yamaha speakers.

I have no idea of the specs. I am pretty clued up on LCD's/Plasmas but am a total noob when it comes to SOUND!

Any Surround Sound Experts on the forum that can give me the low down on quality sound? I would assume there is an exact way it must be setup.

What is my next purchase to add to my setup?

Thx!

I'm no expert but if memory server you should've received an Audessey microphone with the receiver. Put your speakers where you want them put the microphone in the centre of your room and it auto-calibrates your speakers for you.

It depends on the amount of speakers you got with your system and the layout of your room.

Normally the center speaker goes as close as possable to your TV. Normally underneath it, depending on space.
Front left and right should be the same hieght as your head, while in your watching position.
Left and right rear surrounds should be either side of your sitting position or slightly behind you. They can be headheight or up to the ceiling.
A sub you can put anywhere you like.
Do make sure you get the polarity rith on the speaker cables.

If you did get a callibration mike, it should be located at your sitting position for the best effect.
