Don't want to derail the HP Proliant thread with my search for sound.

Any recommendations for a Home Theater Surround Sound System or a Sound Bar?

It will be used together with my XBMC/Kodi setup. I've done a fair bit of reading up and any system with Optical Input or HDMI out(must be v1.4 for ARC) will work perfectly with my TV and server.

Let me state upfront that I can not and will not splash out for something like Marantz, Harman Kardon or Denon. I haven't won the lotto yet. So it will have to be the boring Samsung, LG, Sony type products.

If I am to go for a 5.1ch package it will have to be a tall boy one. Simply can not mount the speakers on the walls.

Sound bar must preferably also be 2.1ch. (subwoofer).

Most of the new systems come with bluetooth connectivity which will be nice. But it is not essential.

Budget is max R4500.00. (Cheaper is of course always better).

I am sure it would, most of LG's latest HT systems come standard with ARC

Thanks. Those tall boy speakers will be perfect for our living room.

Bonus would have been if it was a Blu-Ray player. Not that I think I will really use it with the Kodi server running full steam.

Sometimes you can pick up the onkyo htib for around the 5k mark.

I would look at something like that rather. Also keep an eye out on the classifieds on avforums. Some good deals to be had. Remedytec is also having daily specials that are advertised there.

Other sources like?

It can play from the Blu Ray player(ideal because wife wants to buy our 2yo some kiddies stuff), USB, Bluetooth, audio and optical inputs and also anything currently connected to my television(thanks to ARC) . It can also play anything from my home WiFi network.

Also has FM radio.
