Survey on VoIP

Are VoIP services being used on iBurst? If so what services do you use and what hardware?

I would love to try out the iCall VOIP service but i fear that my link is not stable enough for that. And when i run the iBurst speed test i can not get any results on VOIP stats as it gives me an "Denied Access" error. :wtf:

Nope... is there any trial options available? Would like to try it out but not willing to dish out the cash and realise its not worth it.

Suggest you subscribe to VAS "iCall Starter" (just came out of the oven, has not been market yet but available in the system). It is a free pre-paid Voip service link to your Wireless package.
1.You receive a - 087 - 720xxxx number. Thus you can receive incoming calls.
2. Currently you can top up via help desk - we are working on the option of top up via the iBurst website self service - should be ready in the next week or so.

Then top up with R50 and make some VoIP calls. If not happy, at the worst you lost R50.

BTW: For existing iCall subscribers, if you ask why this service, iCall Starter is free while the iCall service is R50 monthly subscription, the answer is that for standard iCall (R50 monthly subscription) you get allowance of R50 at the begining of each month.

I use services like Ventrilo on my laptop for VoIP communications. Thats accessing a server in the UK and speaking to people from all over the world. This works fine on my iBurst connection MOST TIMES. Recently iBurst performance seems to have been ok (haven't really been using it very much) but I went through a period where connectivity was absolutely shocking and the latency I experienced killed off any real chances of me effectively utilising VOIP.

In my mind, iBurst is not consistently reliable enough for me to seriously consider replacing my other voice services (like landline). I'll take reliable service over cheap service any day of the week.

Although I'm biased and I'm not intending to do any marketing for iBurst,
I don't have a landline at home and I use Billion wireless Voip router + iBurst desktop modem with connection to analoge phone - quality is good, calls are by far cheaper than Telkom.
I think it is the best wireless+VoIP solution one can have.
But I leave you guys to decide.

Just how close are you to your base station ... and how many users are on that tower ?

I've made a few long SkypeOut calls on iBurst, no problems, even when on the 64kbps throttle.

Will calls to the iBurst Helpdesk be free on iCall Starter?

Should be seeing it's still an iCall to iCall call :wtf:
Even if your your pre-paid balance is zero?

When making an iCall, do the MBs generated by the call come off one's iBurst cap?

I'm dead keen to try this out. I have a Nokia N95 with a built-in SIP client. It connects to iBurst via a Wi-Fi router. Could this configuration work?

Service: Skype.
Hardware: Generic microphone+earphones, connected to generic computer, which uses generic iBurst wireless connection, with use of generic omni aerial.

See no reason why it shouldn't be, but will confirm.
