Anyone used SUSE 10? I am going to download it next week and give it a bash on my laptop.

So far I have tried: Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mandriva 2006.

Ubuntu so far seems the best overall, but I want to try find a distro that is more personal and not so serious.

I hear Novell have done wonders with Suze... Want to do the same - thanks ATI for the reminder!

Whoooaaa ATI - just realised 10.1 is 3.5Gb... don't have that kind of bandwidth floating around. How about we go halves and post each other CDs?
Otherwise, if you have plenty BW - I will pay you to cut me a DVD?
Let me know!

Hey man, if you PM me your addy i dont mind sending it to you via post. I have an IS account so wanna burn some of that local :)

Thanks ATI

These DVDs of the latest Suse are on the toasters in Cape Town. Just take your own media and in a few minutes you have a copy.

ok started downloading...

The Sun FTP server does not have the DVD version though :(

Thats 'k - 5CDs is fine too. BTW - I read a post about YAST2 with 10.1 has an issue with being very slow. not sure how serious it is... maybe google it later and post.

It's too late for you guys but I went and picked up a DVD from yawinsky.co.za in Jhb for R130. I didn't want to wait 7 days for the download and they are just around the corner from me.

What's your take on Suse? It installed just fine for me on drive D. Now I just need to get a net connection going and I'm away.

when installing make sure the USB drivers are installed to begin with, otherwise mem sticks, etc not work.

I saw SUSE at CNA attached to one of the PC Magazines. :)

ATI, if you're in Randburg area I can cut you a DVD.

If you're a beginner, SUSE 10.0 is better, in my opinion. SUSE 10.1 has a bug in the updater (it doesn't work) - catch 22 situation.

I've got both, either ways

I tried installing Suse 10.0 last night, with 5 disks, I couldnt go further than disk 1.

It gave me the option to test the disks before I install and it didnt find any errors on the disk nor the DVD Rom.

Will try it on another box latter today

So how're you folks doing with your Suse installations? I'm having loads of fun with mine (YAST2's speed issues aside)... even better than Ubuntu, IMO.

I've got SUSE 10.1 running om my Compaq notebook EVO N1050v with 512Mb RAM. Works like a dream. Had to compile MADWIFI driver for my PCMCIA wifi card, but other than that, perfect!

great stuff man. im just waiting for my test pc then ill keep u guys up to date on all the different distros, and all their bells n whistles
