Suse

There are Linux drivers for the modem. Surely they will work in SuSE as well? I haven't tried this, I am just letting you know.

Hi

Most likely you will need to use pppoe and jack the utd into an ethernet port. If you have one spare, that's cool, else you need to invest R80 or so in an additional ethernet nic. The google for roaring penguin pppoe and install that if it isn't already. You will also need ppp. If those 2 packages are installed, you're away. Plug the iBurst modem into your extra/new ethernet port and set up your pppoe.conf file and pap-secrets files according to your details. I was able to get the modem to respond if I set the ethernet card up with an ip address, despite what the pppoe hgelp pages say. I used the non-routable 10.0.0.0 network range for this, but any reserved ip addresses will work.

Hope that helps

Ciao

How do I connect my iBurst modem to SUSE?
js27y, do you have a UTD[esktop] or a UTC[ard] iBurst modem?

If it is a UTD, then you should use PPPoE & attach the UTD to your Linux box via ethernet (make sure the USB cable is not plugged into the UTD).

If it is a UTC then AFAIK there are no iBurst drivers for Linux - other than what Linux has builtin for PCMCIA support [what Kernel version?]. It should theoretically be possible to get a UTC going with Linux - it has been achieved with Vodacom's 3G Data Cards where there are also no specific Vodacom Linux supplied drivers...

IC I'm using the UTD and I'm sending this post from my Linux Box! :)

Nothing better than a bit of RTFM

The problem I had was because I had the UTD connected through my switch. (I still want to do it). I've 2 machines wich I use and I want to connect them both through the Linux box to the Net. I could connect the Linux box through one of the Windows machine, now just to try the other way around.

When I'm looking at my YaST configuration it tels me it tells me this: "Unknown (PPPOE-style) DSL Device Detected" together with the DSL modem I've set up. Tis is why I initially thought to look for a driver.

If you have any ideas on how to do this, please let me know.

Thanks to all

just set up a dsl connection in SuSe and make sure it detects your network card in Yast, then you just click the kInternet icon next to the clock and you're on
