East London - A 26-year-old suspected armed robber fell to his death from the sixth floor of a police building in East London on Thursday, SABC radio news reported.
The man was arrested last weekend in connection with crimes ranging from armed robbery to murder.
Police spokesperson Mtati Tana said the man was being held for questioning when he said he needed to use the toilet. But instead he jumped through a window.
In his fall the man struck an iron bar before hitting the ground.
Tana said the man sustained internal injuries and died at the scene.
He had been wanted in connection with several armed robbery cases and was suspected of being one of the men who shot a state witness last year, said Tana.
Police were investigating the incident.
