Suspicious SMS

Not sure if this is exactly the right section for this, but need some help with this.

This morning while I was asleep I received an SMS from my own cellphone number giving me a one time pin that was apparently requested for log in. I don't know what service the OTP was for, how I got it from my own number or why it was sent.
I immediately checked my bank balances and phoned my service provider to check if any sim swaps had been done on my number, and it doesn't seem to be the case.

does anyone know about stuff like this happening? Am I at risk of any kind of exploit here?

Without seeing the SMS, where it's from or the actual content (wording) how the flying hell are we suppose to know? Let me thumbsuck this "yes, you're fine" for you...

EDIT: first link on Google searching the wording of that sms...

Not very applicable, that post does not state whether or not the number the person in question received the message from was their own, but it is likely not the case.
There's not much use in me reporting the message to vodacom since I received it from my own number, and I wouldn't like my own number blocked for spamming or anything.
Also does not answer the question as to how or why this occured, or if I am at risk.

Have you checked whether you send yourself a message and at what time? Might be malware on your smartphone.

It could be, although I haven't installed anything new on there in months. I'm not sure if there's any way for me to check if I sent it though, since the smartphone does that thing of making SMSs look like a 2-way chat with a specific number, there's no way for me to have a look at my 'outbox'

Seems it's Vodacom.

I just downloaded the App and needed to sign in and the OTP came from myself as well.

Exact wording...

"Your OTP that you have requested for log-in is: 4843"

Thanks that's very helpful info.
Still quite odd though since I don't have or use the vodacom app.

Edit:
just got off the phone with Vodacom, yup, it seems it's a thing they're doing with the vodacom app, also probably shouldn't share the exact numbers of your OTP
