Suzuki Swace

Suzuki has launched the new Swace, a stylish and versatile Estate car with an athletic design, smooth and stable riding comfort, and advanced hybrid performance.

The Suzuki Swace is the second vehicle to be supplied to Suzuki by Toyota Motor Corporation under a collaborative business agreement between the two companies.

New Suzuki Swace is a (very) lightly disguised Toyota Corolla estate

Suzuki has revealed its new Swace estate in Europe, the latest product of the Japanese firm’s “collaborative business agreement” with Toyota.

Yes, the Swace is effectively a rebadged Corolla Touring Sports (what Toyota calls the wagon version of its Corolla).

The Swace is the second vehicle to be supplied to Suzuki by Toyota in Europe, following the July revealed of the RAV4-based Across.

Just like the Corolla line-up on that continent, the Swace will feature a hybrid powertrain comprising a 1,8-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The combustion mill offers 72 kW and 142 N.m to the front axle, while the electric motor brings 53 kW and 163 N.m to the party.

Suzuki (or Toyota?) says the result is a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 11,1 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.

kak name, and it looks like the front and back were designed by different manufacturers.

Suzuki Swace: Toyota Corolla-based estate priced from £27,499

Second model from partnership between Japanese firms is available in two trim levels

Suzuki has revealed UK pricing for the Swace, an estate car based on the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, as the second model in its strategic alliance with the Japanese car giant.

It follows the Toyota RAV4-based Suzuki Across SUV that went on sale last month, and is priced from £27,499 in entry-level SZ-T guise and £29,299 for the higher-spec SZ5. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a 8.0in touchscreen, heated seats and steering wheel, smartphone compatability are fitted as standard, while the range-topper adds park assist, front and rear parking sensors, blindspot monitor and a wireless charger.

A precise date for UK deliveries is yet to be confirmed, but Suzuki said the model will launch "imminently".

A single powertrain has been confirmed: the 1.8-litre hybrid also found in the Corolla, which combines a 97bhp four-cylinder petrol engine with a 71bhp electric motor via a CVT automatic transmission.

With the same 120bhp power output as the Corolla, the Swace needs 11.1sec for the 0-62mph sprint and top speed is 111mph.

Suzuki is a great make and excellent value for money vehicles.
My only grief is their service plans are short and don't need to be as the vehicles are dependable and reliable.

Suzuki Swace 2021 UK review

Should I buy one?

Those in need of an understated and comfortable workhorse should consider the Swace.

It's an endearing tool-type car: economical day to day, undemanding in the extreme, reasonably refined, well equipped and not as dull as you might imagine when you really want to move.

However, Toyota's powertrain is a drag, and hopelessly uninvolving. Those seeking something more than maximum utility (and, hey, this is Autocar) would be better served elsewhere, not least by Ford's peppy Ecoboost-engined, three-pedal Focus Estate.

strange as badge engineering can work both ways,

or they want to stick us with their weird toysuzis.
As always it’s a numbers game.

In the SA context the Swace makes little to no sense (sales) volume wise as it’s a wagon.

The Suzi version of the RAV4, the Across, also makes little to no sense here as it will cannibalize sales of their SUV & Crossover offerings here.

That’s before we get into possible region restrictions.
