Suzuki SX4 Tyre questions

Hi guys

Looking for some help/advice.

My SX4 has now done 55000km and the tyres (Bridgestone Turanza 205/60/R16) are close to done.

2 questions:

1. The back tyres have worn down more than the front. Why would this be if the car is a front-wheel drive?
2. Any suggestions on new tyres? I do a fair bit of gravel road driving, would fitting something with a slightly higher profile have some advantages? Could I fit bigger tyres without changing the wheels?

I had just changed both my front tyres when I hit a massive pothole just a couple of days later, I am now sitting with a full tread threat has a bulge on the side, forunately no rim damage but still...
