Swedish tourists robbed in Cape

Well, I guess they got an authentic African experience.
 
Anni Dewani was also swedish (I think) and got killed next door from there
 
Yes, why visit khayelitsha ?

One of the movers who was moving my furniture in Dec asked me about visiting South Africa. He was thinking about it. I asked if he had kids. He has a young daughter. I told him not to go. Go to Botswana instead. If he wants a beach, go to the Med or Miami

as far as violence is concerned, if you squint into the setting sun, you may see the masts of that ship disappearing over the horizon.

Arming tourists with non-lethal weapons for self-defence and then dropping them off in the middle of a township. Their only goal is to make it out alive with their wallet intact. Could be our version of The Hunger Games.

Tourism is big in Khayelitsha, they have their own tourism centre and numerous township tours. There is also a wine boutique (culture attraction), not to mention the shebeen "licensed" experience. Tourists can also stay in B&B.

However:

Cape Town - Western Cape police are looking for four armed men who allegedly robbed 17 tourists while they visited a crèche in Khayelitsha on Monday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said: "17 Swedish tourists, a tour guide and a driver were robbed at gunpoint by four armed suspects while they visited a crèche in Site C Khayelitsha.

Expect some local mob authority, this seems desperate by the thieves targeting outsiders inside their own crèche. Maybe the robbers are also outsiders or new to the neighbourhood.

As the old saying goes ... whats the difference between TOURIST and RACIST ? ..... Khayelitsha.
 
Khayelitsha really isn't especially dangerous or a terrible place to visit.

This was just good old profiteering on the robbers' part.
 
Crime is inevitable in big cities. I wish they wouldn't plan these sort of 'shark cage diving' in the main metropoles. I also visited all those places in and around CPT and I never quite felt at ease as I did in the countryside (which is more authentic imho).
