Hi guys

Is there a product out there to hold a pool weir flap in place?

My pool weir tabs (that hold the weir flap/door in place) have broken which prevents me using a pool weir flap/door. This means that surface debris does not get collected in the filter and floats to the bottom.

Replacing the whole weir is a large job that includes brick, concrete and fibreglass work.

Isn't there a product that I can use to slot into a pool weir to hold the flap in place without replacing the weir

If you use a pool cleaner that flap has little use. Mine broke years ago. If you really want to fix, maybe 3d print parts and glue them on

/thread
These work amazingly well but make sure to follow the instructions for it to be most effective. The shape of pool and position of the outlet may also hinder its performance.

Until an over-energetic kid jumps on it and breaks the thread off flush to the wall. :crying:

But they are an excellent product.

Would love a pool skim, sadly, after cleaning the pool that's had zero maintenance for 10 years shortly after moving in, found the return valve damaged, with the threads that allow attachment completely missing.. only way to fix, is to break out the gunite and replace the whole unit..

Same thing happened with me, the old fitting became brittle and just started crumbling and the previous owner had just had it all glued up inside so was impossible for me to remove. Had to call in the pool guys who removed it and replaced it.

My flap broke in Nov, everything is fine, not even sure why you need it

Reading the OP again, perhaps the flap includes a filter to catch floating debris and prevent it from being sucked down in the weir..

My Weir has holes for this flap, suspect that it's long gone, given the pool is 50 years old.. I do get a lot of floating debris sucked into the Weir, but I have Weir basket that traps all, but the smallest bits..

What the flap does is it stand upright and then your pump sucks water and the water level drop a bit lower in the weir than the rest of the pool, till a point when the pressure from pool side is high enough so that it pushed the flap down and there is a rush of water into the weir and the flap pops up again. This is a constant movement while your pump is running and helps a bit with directing floating stuff to the weir. The biggest advantage of the flap is that if you not using a pool cleaner(creepy or something with a pipe), this constant letting water in at intervals will stop the weir making that vortex/whirlpool that sucks in air and make a loud noise.

Just get a pool skimmer. I have one on mine.
If it’s broken like mine was (stupid dog) just get pool guys in to replace it.

That flap you showed would be open all the time with a creepy pipe not so?

you got one years ago that pushed in from the front and locked into place .it had a seperate hole for the kreepy and a half size door with the flap .but its really not needed .

Should still work. The poolskim comes with a bung that you hammer in that press fits it onto the return valve so the threads aren't really needed. you can buy that seperately for about R150 if you want to test if it will work first.

The press fit solution didn’t work for me, the force of the water just pushed it out after a while. Just had to get the entire outlet replaced.

Thanks all for useful contribution:
Looks like a Pool skim is the best option:
1) Replacement of the whole weir is costly, and the pool cleaner being plugged in prevents its use anyway
2) Installing a Pool skim works on the return outlet, leaving the pool cleaner to do its job
3) By reducing the clog on the weir, means the pool pump works more effectively and with a longer duration maintenance free

Unfortunately, my pool is afflicted with a lot of leaves. Left attended, the pool cleaner, pump and filter all overwork resulting in huge maintenance.
