Swimming watch (lap counter)

How many laps you want to swim that you can't count? :p

The lack of oxygen tends to take away the ability to count :D

SO has a Suunto Ambit 2. If you provide the distance of the swimming pool, it counts your laps. But it is a watch that is more for multi sport people.

Was going to suggest the Suunto Ambit. Not too sure what you can use for just a lap counter

80 odd... you get bored, think of other things, and end up doing a 100 :p

Fark me. One thing I could never do was swim long distances  It's the most tiring thing in the world. I can swim if I need to. But if I'm shipwrecked 100m from shore, I'll drown :o

Not really, if you trained a bit you will get past fatigue, swam 2.4km in one session before and I was not tired but got bored. Ended up getting some mussels and oysters to feed the fish for the next 30min (100m tidal pool). Swimming is a low impact sport and great exercise.

I personally use a Garmin Swim and can find no fault with it. An added bonus is that you can upload the workout for Discovery points. You can find a detailed description and online purchase link directly from Garmin SA here.

Detailed review and comparison to other watches can be found here.

I tried a waterproof MP3 player, the **** doesn't work.

AND - you were aiming for 2.0km...but because you didn't have a lap counter, you did 2.4km.

I was considering it - or the Speedo one - I was thinking the one I posted because of the cost (R1400 odd) - but I suppose if I get whacked by customs it'll also be R2k.

I'm assuming this one can't do kick laps either?

Unfortunately not. It however does allow you to manually enter it as customs drills.

See the Ambit 2 is on promo with Takealot for R2999 - only for today.

Good price for the Ambit 2 R. The R is the 'lower' spec model But should be good at that price

Hmmm. Not sure about the AMBIT 2R, but the normal Ambit 2 is able to do laps. You need to train it though. Allows for indoor pool as well as outdoor swimming.

Checked on their website - the R doesn't :(

The 2R unfortunately can't.
