Just a quick note to say that Switch Telecom has decreased its call charges by approximately 20%.

I believe that these are now among the most competitive rates in the market, certainly a lot cheaper than Telkom or Neotel. Also, there are absolutely no nasty surprises; a standard fixed-line rate applies whether calling Telkom/Neotel/VoIP/ECN/Vox/other networks (geographic/086/087/088/089), a standard mobile rate whether calling MTN/Vodacom/CellC/8ta, and toll-free is exactly that.

New tariffs can be found here.

Greg - Nice to see a new website and new products

Just a pity that they still charge R50 per month and that the call rates per second are not really that good - especially international calls when compared to Mweb and Nexus. Both Mweb and Nexus do not charge anything per month and all calls are per second from first second and calls on network for free.

Thanks for the education here; it can serve me well! :)

The call rates are very similar to Mweb and Nexus. Mweb have different peak&off-peak rates and different rates for different networks, all of which average - on a normal residential or business profile - to marginally more than Switch Telecom's. Nexus's are marginly less. Obviously not everyone's calling profile is identical and, for those who make a lot of international calls, it's always advisable to check the specific international destinations that you most frequently call. Note that Nexus does have a minimum monthly commitment of R50 and is prepaid. At the end of the day, the rates are quite close for these three so service and support is probably going to be the key difference.

I think that, in terms of the monthly service fee, one needs to consider the service and support offering. Admittedly, a number of people on this forum have more than ample technical skills but for the general public, a significantly higher level of customer support is expected than just providing SIP account details and, as these lines are increasingly used as primary service lines, business-class service and support is expected. That level of customer support is often lacking on services with zero monthly service fee. Notwithstanding that, I'll take the feedback re the monthly line rental back to the team for further examination!

I must say that I had excellent support from Nexus to set up my Voip and are now running with 3 lines with them. It is not prepaid but post paid - collected from my credit card at the end of the month.
